Interesting Times with L Rear lift brackets .

Post by discopotato03 » Mon Feb 16, 2009 11:06 pm

Hi all , we've been through the hoops making lift brackets to suit Ellie RX's shorter than std Koni coil overs .
Silly me thought I get brackets made to lift it 3" and wind the spring seats down 1" (too much pre load at the lower ride height) for a two inch lift .
Trouble is that 3 inch brackets move the trailing arms down 3" at the struts locating point but the wheel sits further out than this point so the lift was probably more like almost 4" !
I wound the spring seats down to the point where they were virtually unloaded and the effective lift was still 3" ...

So today went back to the Rally fabricators and got them to cut and shut their brackets . They then didn't have enough vertical offset but with I think 3/8 thick sections of flat bar welded on and drilled through it works fine .
They also wound the spring seats up 20mm and the rear ride height looks about right .
I sort of wanted the rear drive shafts to be level between the diff and the hubs and ATM they are very slightly upwards to the hubs .
To be fair Ellie has a little under half a tank of fuel and most of a disassembled 82T engine in the boot , they got sick of tripping over the spare parts so they've come home .

Still weighing up but may need to sell these engine bits because I'm unlikely to ever build another one . Probably keep the Turbo Vortex heads .

Anyhow with the wrecking yard out of the boot and a full tank a guzzaline we'll see what the ride heights like and play with the spring seats to suit .

Cheers A .
