WTF have I done?!?!?

Post by kevmif » Tue Feb 17, 2009 5:27 pm

My tyres are practically shredding ever since I put the damn CV back in on the right hand side.

Driving straight is ok except for the odd random shake through the steering wheel, turning to the left is fine but turning to the right under acceleration results in a lot of noise and vibration and a distinct lack of control.

Maybe I broke the ball joint or something?

Suggestions / help please?

Its an 84 Brumby

I can give a few pointers...
- Offset balance on CV joint
- Brakes offset
- tyre out of balance
- is there anything sticking on the rim?
- wheel bearing on its way out?
- are the nuts tightened including castle nut on the hub?

Did you replace the CV joint lately? or whats the story about the RHS CV joint

Cheers

better tell us whether YOU recoed your CV, new boots and grease etc or fitted another CV shaft of unknown origin or condition>. If you rebuilt or rebooted it did you fit something backwards like the inner ball race on the shaft at the inner DOJ ? Did ya fit shaft of same length ?

Has a driveshaft expert redo the CV for me.

Washer I believe is on correctly. The bit that bolts to the ball joint was hard to get in and the nut didn't do up all the way - had to use a really small split pin in there - but could not get any more out of the nut no matter what I did.

Whats the brake and CV offset mean?

If it does that turning right it seems that the problem is on the left hand side, such as wheel bearing, nut not tight, or the actual lh cv

Noise and vibration? Or clunk-clunk-clunk? Check that the splined shaft is fully home in the CV so that the circlip is engaged properly.
