gen1 legacy and l series compatibility
Hi all,
Looking at a 90 legacy ej22 donor car for the 89 rx. How much of the Legacy suspension would need to be fitted to the L series in order to use the drive axles, discs and 5 stud hubs?

Let me rephrase my question. Will the L series accept the gen 1 legacy /liberty struts, control arms etc at all 4 corners? Rephrased to eliminate concernes about inchangeability between some L and ej parts such as tie rods, drive axles, hubs etc as the rx stuff may be bound for another vehicle.

To make it very clear - no you can't just bolt it all in, nothing really fits, you need the Crossbred conversion kit.
Liberty springs on the front are too wide to fit in the strut towers, although you can beat them out with a mallet to "make them fit". But they won't bolt onto the L series hubs at the bottom anyway. You can't fit the Legacy hubs either because the balljoint is different and won't bolt into the L series control arms. You can get around this by using Impreza springs (narrower) and getting custom modified L series control arms which are offset correctly and designed to accept a Legacy balljoint. They are offset the right amount for correct camber and the right distance to accept standard Legacy driveshafts.
Rear end you can't use Legacy suspension struts/springs, they are completely different. You can use the Legacy brakes etc but you need a custom made hub and backing plate.
All this custom stuff is available in a complete, engineer approved, off-the-shelf kit from Crossbred performance.
