lifting rear end
lifting rear end
does anyone know how to lift the rear end on a 97 outback?
you can go with a strut top lift,
or increase your tire size, or fit HD springs,
depends what you needs are?
towing?
offroading?
heavy loads in the rear?
boredom?
spare cash?

Same thing at both ends or like said a new set of heavy duty springs will probably give you about a 35-45mm lift as your old springs have probably sagged.

You take it out, pretty straight forward - 3 bolts on top which attach into the body, and 2 on the side which attach onto the hub. Use a hacksaw to cut a slit into the plate that holds the brake hose in place so you can then just bend the outside and pull those hose out without disconnecting.
Install spacer onto strut, attach strut to body, push the hub/control arm/linkages assembly down with your foot at massage strut into place. Reconnect hub, done.
If you're not renewing the springs and only doing a small spacer of an inch or so, you might be able to get away without even undoing the hub, don't know on that one for sure though.

When putting the strut top block back in, don't forget to either take the dust seal off the top of the strut's hat or run a bead of silicone around the top of the lift block and the body where the strut's hat used to protrude through. You'll see it when you find the strut top hiding under the speakerTOONGA wrote:In the back of the car (station wagon) there will be 2 speakers remove these speakers and under them will be the strut tops.

Ahaha, I totally forgot to do this the first time around - so much dust in the back of the car! As a quick fix in the bush I loosened the bolts and shoved a layer of foam sleeping mat inbetween - got us home with no more dust

You might noticed it might be harder to put the new or extended struts back in, only easy way is to jack the rear wheel up to put it back in.
There are lift blocks that you could install on the top of the struts and cross member lift as well.
Cheers
