So im assuming it has something to do with suspension cause the guy mentioned it.
I was getting my new tyres fitted on wednesday by a local mechanic. He fitted the back ones and not the front due to some problems, im not much of a car person so i have no idea what the following means:

L/H Lower ball joint is U/S
L/H Steering rack is split
Inner constant velosity joint boots are split

So my question is obveously what does any of this mean and is it going to be an expensive fix for me?? I have known something was wrong because when im driving i hear a rattling on the left wheel side but the car seems to drive just fine, for now...

Subaru RX Impreza (2001 i think) are the car details.

cvs can be costly if youre not mechanically minded to do it yourself (not an easy job for a beginner)

maybe run the car over pedders and see what they say. Even though theyre overpriced.

if a balljoint fails youll be in lots of trouble, its quite dangerous. If a CV joint fails you wont be able to drive the car.

the longer you drive it with split CV joints, the more chance youll need to replace the whole joint, which is alot more expensive than just the boots.

This just means that your subi needs some TLC.

Split boots are not uncommon. And they can be costly to replace if you can't do it yourself. Are all the split boots on the same side of the vehicle?

With some time and effort or a good mechanic it'll come up tops. Nothing major, just annoying to get sorted.

L/H Lower ball joint is U/S: means your ball joint is useless because of wear.

L/H Steering rack is split means the rack has defects either in its gears or shaft may be broken.

Inner constant velocity joint boots are split means the rubber boot is defected. Grease inside from the joint came out from rubber boot and could not be able to protect the CV joint from contamination.

L/H Steering rack is split: means Left Hand steering rack and it is used as linear actuator that is made up of gears and converts rotational motion of steering wheel into the linear motion and it looks like this.

L/H Lower ball joint: means left hand side lower ball joint and is used as the pivot between the wheels and suspension for the safe operation of automobile by controlling the motion and it looks like this.

Yeah mechanics have their own shorthand lol:
L/H = Left Hand. Always from the view of the driver, ie, Drivers side is "RH"
U/S = UnServicable. Means it needs to be replaced.

You'll often see "CV" = Constant Velocity joint. Joints on the driveshaft, similar to the universal joint on the tailshaft, except that it allows movement in & out due to the length of the driveshaft changing as the wheel moves up & down. The "boot" is the rubber that surrounds it to keep the grease in & protect it from dirt, etc. If its split it needs to be replaced...no biggie if you know someone who can help you. But you need to do it soon while the CV is still OK

All the things you have got to do aren't that expensive cv boots will cost the most i would take it to a cv joint shop they should be able to do the lot

you can pick the rubber boots up from $20 each if you look around fitting them is the fun bit you should have asked them for a quote to do the repairs its always good to get some prices. the left side of most car wear out from the amount of pot holes on that side of the road should see how much wear is in the r/h side ball joint and have it replaced to. once its finish should give you years of service and make the ride better don't forget a wheel alignment
