Other way of reconising them if they are okay is while they're extended and pull up the dust cover and check for any type of oil alike around that area that is indicator that the seals is on its way..

2nd hand, is that price reasonable? i could only find the parts individually from suppliers (strut / spring / shocks) which seemed to be a lot more for the whole lot. i'm trying to do it on the cheap so was just going to grab a set of 4 from the wreckers & keep each one intact without messing around with changing springs etc. there's 2 outbacks with all 4 on them so i've got a choice for each strut.

that price is good if they are in good condition.

are the speedos in these cars? I would pck the one with the lowest mileage

as you said it will save you alot of work assembling the struts

by the way the there are no struts and shocks in these cars, they are the one part.

Agreed... if they're in good condition then go for it - it is a good price...
I think I paid $260 for new struts alone (4 struts) for mine thru a mate who works in auto store.

I parked next to Gen3 Outback wagon yesterday (wish had my camera!) and my liberty is slightly higher than 3rd Gen Outback.

haha^ nice!

Concerning the outback struts,
what model outbacks struts can you fit into the libs?
(I have a gen1 lib, I'm guessing gen1 lib struts are the same as gen2 lib struts)

Gen 2 struts will fit in Gen 1 Liberty. But 3rd Gen is different.

I am not 100% sure if the hats are the same between Gen1 & Gen 2 Liberty, can anyone confirm?

I noticed in another thread you had trouble getting the outback struts on and then had to replace the CV joints, I wasn't expecting that.. i thought it was basically a case of undoing the previous ones, bolting the new ones in and voila everything working ok.

is it going to but extra wear on the CV joints because of the different angle?

Um.. I am not sure if its due the age of the boots or its because its on different angle.. its a possibility yes but not confirmed. - I dont mind because i do them myself. Maybe others can answer it?

if your shafts are in good nick you wont have to touch them.

if they are worn, this will show when you add some extra angle to them

The front is identical. The rear is different. You can however go to autobarn and buy some spring compressors for $40 and swap the tops between the two models.

ok.. does anyone know if the outbacks run with the increased angle or do they have the rest of the drive train lowered from the body so its at a similar angle to the liberty?

The rest of the drive train is lowered or a different shape. Your cv joints will cope with the extra angle just fine.
