I've been looking under my car recently and thinking along the lines of 29" tyres and was just wondering a couple of things.

It looks like the problem area is the rear part of the Liberty wishbone control arm. Where it mounts to the body of the car looks about where the tyres might hit it.

Thinking back....I remember looking in the wheel arch of Vidler's Orange Liberty (the one BYB01 used to own) and noticing that the aluminium lift block there had been polished till it was gleaming from the inner edge of the tyre rubbing on it at full lock.

What have you guys done to prevent this?
Do different wheels with an offset further away from the car help much at all?
Anyone used wheel spacers?

I'm intending to run 16" Forester GT mags with 29" tyres. The wheels do seem like they are offset pretty close in to the car.

My reason for going with 29" tyres is I am lead to believe that is the maximum I will be able to fit under the spring base of an Outback strut.

(Yes, this is in an L series with 6" body lift and liberty engine-crossmember and control arms, but this actually shouldn't have a bearing on this particular inquiry as it's the control arms themselves which look like they will be rubbed on by the tyres).
Due to the 6" body lift it looks like the tyres will be way off hitting the actual body of the car anywhere.

I only run 27.5" tyres and mine still rub in the spot you described (just). As long as you grind off any sharp edges it is not an issue. I get in there with a 4" grinding wheel when after fitting those lift blocks.

L with 6" lift - who knows.

Forester and Outback rims are offset +48mm. If you look around you can find aftermarket rims with +35mm.

It rubs the lift block nice and shiney on my Liberty too but i know its there and only really rub it when off road anyway. Rims wirh more out offset would fix this to an extent but you would find the body would start to be an issue on turns.

mm from initial looks I don't think the body is going to be an issue, it's pretty far off in the air these days! I guess either wheel spacers or different offset rims are the only solution (if only a partial one). At least I am very safe for the moment. The Forester GT rims came with a low profile street tyre - as pictured in my signature below, you can kindof see.

Andrew , I have seen guys get the forester rims & cut the welds out and move the off set out , that works .

Yes, the cruiser rims are a wider offset. Not sure exactly but I think they are about a 35.

Is this new info Brett or have you been holding out on me?

Are both of those different PT cruiser rim specs? or are the 15s the PT cruiser and the 16s some kind of subaru ones?

If those are stock PT Cruiser rim specs then they would suit anyone looking for a small track increase. Both my 15" & 16" rims for the racecar are +35mm but I'm always on the lookout for something wider.

I chased up Performance ages ago for a price on Superlites for the Impreza, they told me the only 15" 5x100 mags they made were a 25 offset so would not suit Subaru.

Yes Daza, they now have a bunch of different offsets for the 5x100 Superlite. Too much money for me just now though.
