Liberty Airbag Compressor as tyre inflator?

Post by crundle » Tue Nov 25, 2008 5:43 pm

Not sure that this is the right thread for this, but wondering if anyone has used an old working airbag compressor as a tyre inflator for an L series?

I think the compressor is found under the passenger side behind the front tyre panel, anyone know exactly where it is?

Seems like a good idea, and I have recently had the missus' liberty converted to normal struts, so I gather she wont notice if it goes missing!

cheers,

compressor is inside the passenger guard.

its a low volume pump, and would take AGES to fill a tyre. this has been discussed a heap of times. try a search

if you are converting to standard suspension ditch all the air gear. there is probably about 40kg of crap inthe car you dont need.

I did it and it although it worked it was a waste of time. As VV said, it is very slow. You could pump your tyres up faster with a foot pump.

Thanks for the heads up about it not working well. I have noticed that other threads are advocating using the air conditioner pump for the same purpose, so I might investigate going down that path instead.

That does work quite well. Subarute had it set up like that in one of his cars.

Look up 'endless air' through a seach engine for ideas on that one.

FYI Subarino has done this as well (sorry to throw you in it Dave).
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

I had the aircon compressor in my old 60 series set up as a pump, it would inflate a 12.5x33x15 to 32lb from flat in about 60sec @ 1,200 rpm, absolutely brilliant, just chucked a bit of oil in it every now & then.

I ran across a tube bumper somewhere that was set up as a reserve air tank. Do not recall capacity, etc. Just an idea.
Cheers, mark

There is an aluminium fabricator in hall that does this with some of his trays plus water storage aswell but id prefer a small compressor incase you get a few flats plus then you hold more water!
