Question on steering coupler for lift kit

90% done with installing my BYB 2" lift but have a question for Dave, Brett or anyone else who can help?

Instructions say to remove the rubber coupler and replace with extension. It appears as though the coupler needs to be cut apart in order to do this. Is this right?

Any help is appreciated.

not sure if the late model cars are different (never played with one) but you usually have to either unmount the steering column or lower the engine crossmember to get the extended steering coupler in there.

Got the rubber mid-section removed and drilled out the holes in the upper and lower u-joint sections of the coupler. Fitting it back in and it's about 1/4" too long. Tried lowering the front carrier. I may be able to tap the bottom section further down onto the spline, but I don't want to wreck it and risk having to pull the hole rack.

Any ideas on how far down that coupling can be pushed onto the lower steering spline?

You need to slide it up the top one first. It should slide an inch or more up the top giving enough room to fit the bottom on. It can't fit if you try doing it from the bottom first.There should have been no reason to take the original one apart. Same thing, it should have been slid up the column and then off the bottom.

I did slide the original one off the top and then off the bottom. It came out with no problem. The instructions call for removing the rubber section and replace it with the extension.

Two problems I had. The holes on the extension piece didn't line up with the holes on the u-joints and once the whole thing is bolted together, it's too long to fit. I put the bottom on first and then tried to slide the top one on but it won't line up to the post coming out of the firewall.
