Lowering Subaru L series ('93 4X4 wagon)

Hey all,

I know this is unusual, as generally the go is to lift these cars up. But my subaru L series is pretty much just for road use, there is gravel/snow etc but no offroading. I want to bring it down to a normal height (not have a foot clearence between the wheel and the guard). I cut the springs to bring it down to the level i wanted, and it looks tops, but the car has done 350,000 clicks and the shocks are originals :|, plus with choppy's the ride isnt overly confortable. Can you buy lowered springs for these cars? Or is there a trick with using different model suspension???

Any help is appreciated

-Dan

Not sure where in the world you live but if you live in Australia then king springs has some choices for you. This also means stiffer springs. Here is a link to the catalouge.

And these sell the king springs a bit cheaper then normal if that helps.

I would also love to get my L series lowered.

I mainly use it on the road and do a fair bit of tight corners around my house and because the suspension is fairly high and soft it really mucks with the ability to take tight corners fast.

I have seen a few in the US that have been lowered with 15"/17" STI alloys and they look mean.

You guys ARE nuts!

And I've noted a problem... you mention L series and fast in the same conversation, inferring that an L series can go fast :p

And that they have some kind of cornering capability...... :)
been there, done that. Maybe stock sport wagon or 2wd sedan (front only) shocks/springs will help.
I've got some Gabriel rear shocks which will lower the back end by at least an inch and add a couple of degrees of neg camber as well, without touching your existing springs.
You can buy mine off me so I can get some real shockers!!!!!

both my L go pretty quick, maybe its just your L benny.

i would also like (maybe) to bring the rx down a bit, i have dodgy 2wd "sus"pension that came out a lowered rx spec sedan. nice height but chopped springs and worn out shock.

it also cut a nice slot in the exhaust from rear drive shaft.
bad 3" exhaust+dodgy lowering=what was the previous ower thinking!!!!

Same here, Mine is pretty zippy aswel.

I can do 0-60km in around 4 seconds and 0-100 in around 10 which isn't bad.

I hit 155 in it on a flat road not long back

I got a little extra performance by:
* Replacing all my filters
* Give the carby a good clean out
* Replace the spark plugs
* Change the oil in engine, gearbox & dif

I do that every 2-3 months and it keeps my subie purring nicely.

Take Phizinza's race wagon for instance that is what I belive is a mainly stock EA81 and that gets some speed even when its offroad

Ive spun out many a subaru wagon lol.... handling when they are high off the ground isnt the greatest but its a heap of fun off road.

Pretty sure you should get some king springs, chopping springs from what ive seen has never been a good idea.

I used to have an L that would hit 180 in 400m or so of straight, and then brake in time for the corner at the end.... But it was no ordinary L

Anyone that uses 'quick' 'cornering' and 'L' in a positive manner in the same sentence has their hand on it...

well i have the ej'd wagon and a rx 82t, i know they arn't supercars but they go more than quick enough for me and the roads.

but my last sedan with ej22 and matching awd box felt like a supercar.......

when it had 13" wheels :)

Shuffbag, your L's aren't exactly everyday run of the mill carb'd units now are they... Hmm, I think that might be the difference in performance!

Cheers

if you wnat good handling round corners convert it to 5stud and get a hold of a set of BE liberty coilovers
(mysti) was running a set of tien coils in his rx with 17" rex rims
handling was pretty good for an lseries
and the end of the speedo arrived very quick with an ej20g
