After many trials & failures I have got my finial setup........
It is about 90mm longer than a standard 'L' series stut.
10 points to anybody who can guess what the struts are from......

is the shock actually any longer? Looks identical with an extension welded on the bottom

Yes it is 55mm longer stroke than a factory shockabsorber.....
The springs are custom made to suit the longer stroke....

I'm interested in this as I still run standard rear suspension in my wagon (just upgraded to kings/kyb).
How come it needed a custom spring if it's a factory shock? Couldn't it just use the matching factory spring?

Sounds like the doner car might be heavier.

I would have said factory Prado/Hilux but I don't think the lower bush has a crush tube. If it is a factory shock from a popular modified 4WD, you'll be able to get hundreds of those shocks for nothing.

They look like some struts I hav been looking at for the Liberty. I think they come from a current model Hilux. All you have to do is pick up any 4wd mag and you will see pics of them in the suspension ads.

Stuart you would be correct!
The valving is almost the same as a KYB Shock absorber.
I do have adjustables on the way....
The spring is MASIVE in the front of a Prado/Hilux way to big to suit the application I am using it for. The thickness of the spring wire is like 5 times that on a King 'L' series spring.
I am working on a final price for these.
I am the only one who has these springs as I own the design.

Well in that case, you WILL get hundreds for free. I've got the 2 out of my new Hilux that I was going to throw in the bin. They are way too soft for a Hilux.
But I fail to understand how an 8" travel shock is going to benefit the rear of an L series. The camber change design prevents any more than about 6" of shock travel before it binds up. I'd be very careful. The bushes will chopout and the 10mm bolts will snap. The solution of course is to change it to full trailing arm and have as much travel as the CVs will allow.

Its more so to remove the lift kit extention & to stop the spring base from being forced over the seat on the shock absorber & having complete failure.

so tell me y u can not used the 'L' series spring with packers under it to make up for the short 'L' series spring .
as for a custom spring i think there wood be one off the shelf that wood do it with out a custom .

Spring spacers are a dodgy way of doing things. + they are illegal & do not conform to ADR spec.
There is nothing on the market that is the right size (diameter / length) & spring rate.

Semi-off-topic: is that absolute about spring spacers? Nolathane sell 10mm soacers for coil sprung live axle Falcons with no mention of legality.
Dane.

Well in that case, it sounds like you're on a winner. As a side effect you'll also gain some extra cooling from the larger oil capacity.
How can you own the design?
As you know, King Springs will make you (or I) any spring you want.
Have you thought about designing a bolt-in replacement trailing arm that either doesn't incorporate camber change or makes it change a lot less? I know I have, but can't get past the need to cut the inner mount off and weld on something straighter.

The Nolathane ones for the falcon are a spring seat replacement. They replace the original rubber ones...
I paid a design fee to have the spring made for only me.
King springs will now no longer deal with the general public.
I have thought about designing a better setup, but for what I want / need the factory setup works for me...
