Steering Extension for outbacks

Post by ScubyRoo » Thu Aug 05, 2010 4:39 pm

Hey guys,

Loving my new outback so far but s***, it needs to be lifted. I have a kit that I took out of my liberty after I wrote it off, and plan to put the same kit into my outback.

Two main questions:

1. What length does the steering extension need to be? The extension that was in my lib will be too short (already checked, its almost identical in length to the stock outback).

3. Did you extend your brake lines, if so how by how much?

It's a 2" kit with 3" strut tops, raised king springs.

Cheers,
Owen.

Remember outback has a 1.5" lift Owen so when you swap it out for your 2" lift the steering extension only needs to be that little bit longer than the stock extended one in your outback. So what you have should be fine. Mine is a 40mm extension.

I did not have to extend my liberty brakes lines for my 2" lift with outback shocks. 3" tops i don't know. The outback lines may be longer than the lib ones so you might have that extra play over a lib to compensate for the extra 1" in the strut tops. You can always just leave them out of the retaining clips and there will be no problems, then have lines made to fit at a later date.

Cheers,
Rhys

No brake lines and ABS were fine Steering was lengthend by 25mm over the standard outback one from memory I shall try and find out for you. I moved the handbrake cable above the front diff hangers too plus had to adapt the air box at the back of the engine!
