gabriels vs kyb vs monroe shocks

Post by red_rocket » Mon Nov 08, 2010 11:49 pm

Hi guys
after some advice on these shockies. personal experiences etc for my L wagon because if it was purely based on price i would of already made my decision. BUT i dont want to skimp and find the new shocks arent up to scratch!

for the rear shockies these three brands came within 30 bucks of each other so im happy to pay the most for the best although the fronts, the Gabriels were basically half price compared to the others?

are the Gabriels any good?
thanks
Scott

Do they do a Rancho for Subies? Best shocks I've ever had by a country mile, took many a 10 foot jump in my old Cruiser.

gabriels are terrible. kybs

and no they dont do ranchos for subis.

if only they had the same selection for subarus as they do for big fourbys. EFS shocks rock my socks.

Gabriels are rubbish!
We had brand new top of the range on the rear of 2 84 my wagons on our cape york trip.

The top broke off one and 2 of the others (out of 4) leaked out and completly failed.

cheers for that guys. Could of saved me making a big mistake. The rear kyb are similar price to gabriels anyway so that was a bit of a no brainer but will just fork out for the fronts.
Thanks again

Dumb question, are Pedders an option or are they just rebadged something else?

looks like everyone concurs - Monroe front struts rubbish - and they were!!
Gabriels, oh there so damn soft, probably last fine if just on-road.
KYB - ah just magic. I really don't know why it took me 2 goes to get to
the right ones - but KYB not normally stocked by the locals.

However, I had replaced oem rear with a Monroe type, and they were real good, excellent in fact - still had em when lost the car.
They were Monroe long shocks or something - not available anymore anyway.
