subtle solutions OB lift questions

hey guys,

do you reckon something like this is worthwhile for my gen3 outback

http://www.subtle-solutions.com/product ... cts_id=140

now, i have afew questions.

I am already running raised king springs which has made it a fair whack taller.

When we were installing the rear struts back into the car with the raised springs it was rather tough to get the bottom bolt thru the strut and rear control arm thingy.

We were hanging off a BIG steel bar to be able to pull the control arm down far enough to get the bottom bolt back in. (big strong guys at full muscle power) im 90% sure we had the sway bar disconnected at this point.

were we doing something wrong? Im concerned if i buy these strut tops i wont be able to physically get the struts back in the car.

am i maxing out the suspension travel of this car?

id love to get another inch under her cheaply.

thanks

alex

I have these in my Forester with raised springs but I know the OB is tighter in the back with less articulation due to the multilink supension.
I do know you can fit a max of 50mm lift without doing a full body lift on a Gen 3 OB though. Your springs are 25mm and so are the lift blocks so I reckon they would fit but you might need a spring compressor to get them in. I reckon it would be worth doing

Only problem then is you would have no more articulation in the rear without.

Spring comp's for sure. Another easier option... take it to a suspension place with hydraulic spring compressors. I was charged $10 each... and I didn't even break a sweat.

Great idea! If i get a lift kit i reckon i mite do just that!

These lifts kits look great. My concerns would be electrolysis between the aluminium kit & steel body/bolts, also the softer aluminum "crushing".

What do others think?

There are already guys on subaruoutback.org with raised spring and subtle spacer on gen 4. As for me to put the shock back in, I just place the floor jack to push the shock up to line up with the hole.

by the looks of them i'd say you'd be able to get a engineering shop in perth somewhere to knock them up for alot less then the money being asked... just a thought

If anyone interested in the measurement for gen 3 outback strut top, I got them drawn in CAD with metric. Havent been asking for fabrication yet.

Cheers,

I have 10mm extra lift in the rear (50mm lift kit with 60 over the struts) and I used the standard car jack to push the control arm down until the bolt would go in.

Whatever springs you have will make no difference to fitting the strut as the strut itslef does not get longer, only stiffer so it does not sag as much.
