steering mount bushes
steering mount bushes
After successfully putting some OB struts in my Liberty, I took it to get the 4 wheels aligned. I was told that the mount bush needs replacing and was quoted $35 for the urethane bush and $115 for labour.
Just wondered is it an easy job to do? changing struts wasn't too hard except undoing a few stuck nuts.
Also he said the steering rack had a small leak and to keep an eye on the power steering fluid level, that it's not repairable unless I get the rack replaced. So my next question is would the rack in my 98 Outback fit into my 92 Liberty and is this and easy or had job to do?
My last question, is it worth me putting the sway bar from the OB into the Liberty, would it fit and how hard eay would this be to do?

I know alot of people have trouble with them and i do to.
For example i asked for an engine cleaner attachment for my air compresser. I have seen it in there before.
"Oh sorry we dont have such a thing never have, but you can by a full water pressure cleaner for 10 times the price"
That was alot of help. But they have been good for me before.

Rack bushes are 4 bolts that hold the bracket, bush and the steering rack. Really simple to replace. Make sure you get the right width bushes, i just bought a set of nolathane bushes on ebay for $30. The OB rack should bolt in. All you need to do on top of the rack bushes is undo the powersteering lines and undo the outer tie rods. You might need to take of the headers though? Thats pretty straight forward too, just source some gaskets and goop to refit them without leaks. Refill the P/S fluid and there's a few different ways to ensure you get all of the air out of the system.
