Lift Kit Help

My mate told me this and i just wanted to clarify as he doesn't always know what he is talking about:rolleyes:. Ok so, he said a lift kit just lifted the body ie. panels. I thought it lifted everything, the chasy as well. I would have thought that they would lift everything or people would just get a suspension lift.
Is it worth bothering with a lift kit or should i get a suspension lift?

On subaru,s it lifts all bar the driveline... So he was right he just didnt take into account that subarus use a monoque chassis (built into body) as apose to standard 4x4,s ladder frame

Would this be the same as a suspension lift? Would the driveline be overexposed when offroading?

There is a Full Body Lift which will lift the whole body but leave the engine, gearbox, diffs, etc... at stock height.
Then there is a strut lift which lifts everything except the wheels. All the body, diffs, gearbox, drivetrain, engine, sumpguard.

I went for a strutlift personally because I bashed my sump in and was damaging the underside too much

But with the combination of both you can go more than 3" compared to just one or the other.

Prices? Sounds nasty, yeah i think the max is 2" but with suspension you can go more. I would probs only go the body unless it wasn't too expensive and worth the strut lift.

no matter what unless its diy its expensive but it comes to personal prefference and where you will be offroading

True what mud_king91 said. The cheapest and easiest way to lift your brumby would be using 2" strut blocks which would cost you about $350-400 also if you put them in yourself or with the help of others rather than going to a shop.

Also i might add anymore than 2" (50mm) is illegal without an engineering certificate and your vehicle can be yellow stickered.

i dont know about other state but in NSW, vehicle prior to 2009 allow for 100mm ride height change.

A 100mm may be true but when using lift blocks by themselves you are allowed no more than 50mm lift blocks (according to national standards). But in saying that I have 50mm lift blocks in my outback and all legal plus once you do that it is possible to fit decent sized tyres on, And one of my brumbies has a three inch kit and forrestor wheels and tyres but has more clearence than my dads hilux!

Ok so 2" is fine? then engineering certificate which costs the earth? Can i raise my suspension as well without A certificate? I hate the sa laws!

the reason for the "body lift" is so you can fit bigger tires under the guards without too much trimming. that's where most brumbys get there ground clearance is through bigger wheels/tires

and keep in mind the heigher you go suspension wise, the more camber you will get (bad camber.. not hella flush camber!)

If you are talking about a brumby, it is the easiest to do. You just put a lift kit in it , which lifts the body( more ground clearance under the body). Then you put 14 inch rims and tires on, with something like 27 inch tires. Then you have body and drive train clearance . Price wise for a good lift kit , from say Crossbred Performance is around $450 or so.

As for strut lift , it cant be done in a brumby, as there no struts in the back. With a lift kit as said above , there is no problem with wheel alignment or camber, due to none of it is touched.

thats what I want is a higher car with more ground clearance. I think i have 14" sunnys (will double check tomorrow) but with standard road tyres. What does a lift kit actually look like? Yes i know im young and dumb, so i sought of have an excuse.

Are they easy to put in? Where are some good places to get them from? I know the forum sells them (never thought a forum could sell you something:lol: haha) Crossbred as said above. And everyones favourite Subawreck.

If you go to the Crossbred Performance web site , it will show you what a lift kit looks like. Just follow the buttons ( ie , products ) .

Could you do a coilover conversion in the rear and front of a brumby?
Is there really no way to do a strut lift with a bit of work?
What about landcruiser (fj40/45) struts, apparently they might fit?

FJ40/45 had leaf springs and shock absorbers front and rear.

I don't know if Steve at rising sun does them... Crossbred produce a great product, Venom's running a two inch full body lift in his H6 liberty.

Or you could try emailing the crew here: [email protected] and hopefully they'll be able to get back to you. I think a lot of members have forgotten that the BYB crew make lift kits. From memory it was Subi Wan Kenobi that was building them, I'm not sure what the status is these day, hopefully you'll find out
