Strut Top Rubbers / Bearing Caps ?
Strut Top Rubbers / Bearing Caps ?
Hey guys.. I can't figure out the forsale/wanted section.. Who to donate to or what not but anyways..
I've got a 85 Subaru Brumby Lifted 2" in the front.. Broke bolts in the back so still havent done the back.. And 27s on it.. I was out 4x4ing 2 weeks ago and i had massive positive camber..
The strut/shock had seperated from the top.. I believe they're called bearing caps or something..
So where can i source the rubbers from ?
Or will i need to go with all new shocks/strut/springs. ?
I wanna fix this part before i sell it.
Cheers

+1 for new.. it's pretty common with the MY Series model. Depends on how extreme your driving but if it's like Ken Block Jumping Style, then I'd suggest some support brackets in the centre of the mount as well. It will save you ending up with the strut outside the guard or through itFROG wrote:I do a roaring trade in the top strut mounts they go for around $120 new genuine

You know you are getting old when the candles on your birthday cake start to cost more than the cake itself.

New ones 120 each or for a set ?
Support brackets.. How would i do that ? Got a diagram on what your talking about ?
I was lucky enough they didn't go outside the guard itself.. they popped out and just sat in the inner guard haha.
One side myself and a few others lifted the whole car to put it in.. But the otherside wouldn't work so we just jacked it and slid it in..
Cheers for the info so far =).

If you're selling the car i'd probably just go to a wrecker. You'll need some spring compressors. They're pretty easy to take off just be careful to compress the spring till its lose so it doesnt fly off...

I don't but somewhere on AUSubaru is a picture from either Dave (Subarino) or Jay (Vidler) that shows this little support bracket.EAS51 wrote:New ones 120 each or for a set ?

Going to be a sh*t load better out of the car.. I would hate to see it done in the car
I would also use those spring compressors and a rattle gun to remove the nut. Also good to lock the insert from turning by using a set of vise grips near the top (nut end) but try to use rubber around the shaft.

I asked this question a while ago when I put my lift kit in in this thread.steptoe wrote:I had a pair of these that were from 84 sedan FWD and had arrows stamped into them with FWD this'a'way and 4WD that'a'way. Obviously reversed between 4WD and 2WD ? anyone know why ?
showthread.php?t=15658
basically the question is still open for and answer.

On this set they said. Sedan on one side.. and van 4wd on the other side.. Obviously i wanted the 4wd so they went to the front..
Just copied what was already in there =)..
I ended up pulling the hole strut out and took it into where my cousin works and he rattled the old ones off and rattled the new ones on..
Brang them home fitted the Body lift part on top.
Put the top in first just loosely put the nuts in, jacked the hub up until the bottom sat in and done it all up..
Saved myself alot of hassle taking it into the shop haha =).
Now the brumby is driveable and ready to be sold...
The waiting game for subscription begins..

Yeah i don't understand why they say VAN either..
Why can't they just say. 4WD That way / FWD This way
Make more sense ?
The only thing i can think of it doing is pushing the wheel back/forward further Creating more turning maybe ?..
I put one on back to front just to see the difference and it was only like 1 cm difference.
Meh who knows.
