Buying Brumby front struts ???

Post by steptoe » Sat Apr 28, 2012 7:57 pm

Original fitment is 7210 32064 on the right, think left is 63

Protex do one for 82 to 94 Brumby , found on ebay in Perth $365 delivered

Rockauto lists for the BRAT a KYB 234028 but only one left in stock. About 60 bucks US plus heaps in postage

Travel on to amazon and used the check that it fits my car - used BRAT 1987 and it came back uh ah !!

then

http://www.octaneautosupply.com/Steerin ... 22807.html

sort of blows Amazons check funktion out of the water.

Might try a kyb web site. Any other suggestions welcome

kyb suggests after I clicked accept disclaimer five times 333227 is for 80 to 94 Brumby ??

Gave up on my next attempt to accpt disclaimer and enter above....

Found Gen numbers to match the 333227 as :

7210 32064 - 7210 32090 - 7210 32091 - 7210 32240 - 7210 32241 - 7210 32590

aha, a UK site sugests the new number is the 33 series, the old number must be the 23 series. UK site also says fits L Series ! Wonder if that is same as our L Seies ??

Looking at the misterauto.co.uk on the 333227 and using the MV1800 as test mule for parts selection it then tells me the new number 333227 is not suitable - feel like I am ringing a governmant office !!

Google found a reference to 7210 32064 and supercedes to 333227 if I can make out the Cyrillic alphabet of the Ukraine :)
Might need to scan the suspension parts books locally or ring KYB and not tell them what I am up to, or another resort - a mates uncle is the KYB wholesaler for a small independent euro nation - time I got skype !!

And finally found an australianauto parts listing that lists one shock does both left or right for up to 1987 Brumby, then from 87 to 5/94 a left and right specific strut assy. Glad I don't have an 87 Brumby - could be either

I'm not the only one....

surely just go onto the kyb site to find the one you want??

http://www.kyb.com.au/part.htm?http://w ... shocks.php

http://www.kyb.com.au/

then you can get exactly the part number you need from where ever else rather than trust their find parts system!

(tbh, i though you would try the brands own website first...)

while we are sort of on it, it seems to be hard to get exactly the right parts for the older subies. can be listed anywhere from leone, l series, MY, 1800, sportswagon, dl, gl, touring wagon, rx, and many more i have seen. I know the important differences between them all, but often only one of them is listed or a bizarre combination. doesn't make much sense to me...

edit: i first thought you were looking at kyb shock, sorry. but seriously, once you have the part number you require you should be able to source that, rather than believe what their own interpritation of the part is.

Hmmm, second hand eh ? Not this time thanks. That is sort of what I bought in here last year , a pair of KYB 363027 inserts of low km. May be listed for sale here if they don't fit in my 84 Brumby, and just fitted up some new Monroe gas to the rear the other week.
I reckon amazons checking system may be corrupted or no good in matching Oz Brumby fitment. It was OK with DL with the 234028 numbers.

Newer series 333227 do not even compute with other sites.
This may be a case of being parochial and buying local - in case of mis interpretation

Fair enough.

Just for refernce though are you looking for just the strut insert?

When I replaced mine, I just went for a whole new strut rather than worry about trying to find the right insert?

I have the insert to do the job BUT the strut assy is a no repair version - something I feared with no way to confirm until I pulled out - probably why it took me a year to get this far.

I now have to go for whole strut and want new and wanted to continue the US experience and struck MTB's "bizarre combination. doesn't make much sense to me... " syndrome.

SCA do Gabriel and want 154 ea plus one 28 freight
autobahn say similar for Gabriel or 290 for KYB and is trying to tell me that is a pair price - so not putting in trust in my luck in getting two for one deal

I think the 234028 is old stock that systems are designed to say it is not correct.

One US site showed 234028 was for MY BRAT etc for whole model range with a 4WD strut - may be worth a shot, if not , Neville and I will have quite a collection of front bits :D

with Subie retail at $168 a , you are generous :)

No stuffing around then, same trusted reliablity and retain the height adjustment - unlike the others. I got a report from one retailer that one brand feels softer than the dearer alternative.

I'll send you a PM Andy !

ouch ! what year model and how many km on them ? Sometimes think wrecker prices are rude, only talking to former wrecker staffer saying some stuff was sold at more than price of new , and they were pointing towards repco !!!!

My originals were 390, 000 km old, my newies have yet to get any miles under their belt. Postage and handling with sign for registered mail was only $20 for the pair.

Watch this space for the road test - got one strut assembled and ready

Thought I'd better come back and finish this post off after FROG asking me tonight if I was happy fitting the genuine struts - now that I have the beast back on the road.
My wallet is happy and I am happy - rides like a new car and retains the wind up bits being the original genuines. FROG - ask me in another twenty years - we'll see if they last like the first lot :D

Thanks for your efforts mate !

This makes good reading :-) here in the UK I cannot find shocks for front or back ! KYB no longer makes them for MVBRUMBYBRATS. Monroe doesnt either. Feel like I am banging my head against a wall . The £ against the Oz $ is a joke and if I could afford them ? Aussie post charge like a wounded bull ! and to top it all off...... I have just found and bought a mark 1 and guess what... It needs rear shocks :-( "MO"

I have KYB 333227 on my 1991 Brumby, they do not appear to be more than a few months old so some one must still sell them.

>strut assy is a no repair version

I recall the early MY's were rebuildable ? I have a set in the garage from an 1982, but haven't looked at them in a long time...
1989 Brumby - Shiny new red paint, stroked EJ20 phase 2 SOHC with Darton sleeves bored to EJ22, Wiseco high-compression pistons, Delta 2000 grind cams , EJ/XT6 5 stud with WRX 4/2 pots, 5-speed, 86 GTS seats and so much more.
Contact me for reproduction XT6 hubs...and EA82 rear discs.
