Getting excited - L series lift kit suppliers

Today, I sent off a request to the Engineer I prefer to use for car mods asking what is the go re a 2" lift kit into an L series and if it makes any difference if the kit is tubular or solid alloy. (it doesnt)
Part of his reply was -
"the mudflaps behind the rear wheels have to be extended to meet the tyre coverage (maximum distance off the ground) requirement"

When I had the MY certified this was not an issue but it is with the L series now. No biggy though.

The only other things are to make sure the extension parts of the steering are machined parts bolted together as welded steel components have to be x-rayed and traverse hardness tested. Obviously machined parts are cheaper.
Certification should be about $400.00 so with the lift kit pricing on top this makes (for me) still a reasonable proposition to go ahead with this project.

I see off the web that Hi-Rise still show they sell a tubular kit for $350.00 and an alloy kit is available at an extra cost.

Has anyone bought a NEW 2" lift kit for an L series recently and if so when, where and at what cost.

I will send off a message to Hi-Rise anyway but due to it being the weekend I would not expect a reply till next week.

Sorry Cliff.
Hi rise are out of business as far as I know.
********* or SJR lift are the only two left.
Or make your own/ second hand.

It's funny, apparently, according to Vic modification guidelines you do not need engineer's approval for a 2 inch lift - yet when you contact an engineer they state that they're more than happy to help approve a 2 inch lift. Odd.

Thought I'd share that with you for whatever reason ;)

Cheers

Don't worry, it's the same for a 3 inch lift kit :(

Vicroads are going nuts on all the good things in life except excellent road maintenance!

I note on *********'s web site as of April 12 that due to a lack of orders Brumby and L series lift kits have been put on hold. Future kits will be produced in batches as required and there are production cost increases also.
I have e mailed them for more details.
Anyone got a 2nd hand L series kit they want to sell ?

I have a L series 3inch kit used I could be persuaded to part with. Its a steel crush tube style. Complete Inc steering extension.
I'm 270km south of you. I will be headed north past your neck in Nov.

Thanks eveyone for the responses.
A 3" is what I would like but I will have to check with my engineer to see if he will approve this height otherwise, like other comments have noted legallities will limited me to a 2".
I will have to check this out.

All
I have been touch with my engineer in Newcastle who has strongly recommended only going with a 2" lift kit as for Engineering approval purposes a 3" kit will require all of the spacers to be crossbraced against the chassis. It is possible but much more complicated.
He also mentioned if I wanted to go higher than 2", I could also raise the suspension by up to 1/3 of the original droop travel, which also helps to increase ground clearance under the driveline, which the lift kit doesn't help with.
The written reply is much more complicated and lengthy than above and I dont claim to understand all of it but in all 2" is how far I am willing to go.

I hope that's the response I get - I doubt it though. Just a matter of time until I'm off the road - hopefully a very long time from now.

I always thought Getting an engineers certificate required a gold MasterCard and an organ donation.
What can you expect to pay to get the blue plates?
I would have thought that if you had a gold MasterCard you would be walking into ARB.
Got me thinking maybe there not that expensive.

I believe a blue plate is just a QLD thing. And only an engineer can answer that for you...

Oh, ok in that case.
What does it cost to get something engineered?

Dont know about other states or other engineers but I have been quoted $400 for the kit to be certified in the L series for NSW. I think from the same engineer for the MY but before the horrid changes came about it was about $250 (would need to check my receipts though)
Anyway, I am still going ahead with it.
