L series rear struts - fleabay purchase question

G'day all,

I'm after some info regarding these rear struts on fleabay for the mighty L series. Has anyone made a purchase with these guys? I'm looking at replacing my rear struts - I'm over looking for second hand units as I've never had the coin to do anything about it. Lucky for me at the moment I have the means to go with a new set and I reckon these look the goods - would like to know if anyone knows that they ARE the goods

I'm looking forward to your responses if there are any. I've emailed the supplier tonight and will be eagerly waiting their reply!

I have recently bought two sets from ebay for Brumby Flexiglass canopys, @$30 delivered a pair they are great.

Can you remember who you got yours through? I'm wondering if this set is rebuildable - that shiny nut looking thing at the top of the strut where the shaft comes out looks like some fancy nut thing that could be removed if I ever needed to.

I'll let you know what they say in the reply. Good price in my book too - the sale ran out last night but it looks like it's been extended. Postage should be about $25

yer different cars er 1/2 car
first set was for "Sulky"
the second for the recent adittion, Beige Brumby.

Those caps that look removable probably are but not rebuildable _ Ive already tried with Brumby front struts that looked same - once you get that cap off that's it. Finito!

Just don't get carried away untril you know the bottom bolt centre to seat perch measure Gannon.

Well after emailing them a few times, the lady couldn't tell me that they would be good for anything offroad. The modified bump and rebound settings were for daily driving onroad. She then wanted to quote me prices for other makes that they could get hold of.

By this time I had got onto my local parts joint back down at my pero's place - should have asked them earlier - I've now paid for a set of KYB replacements and they'll be headed my way with either my folks when they visit next weekend or with my better half when she's down that way later in the week.

I paid $220 for them - and as I type this it has just dawned on me that I hope they're the right height ones for the 4wd - I don't need any extra height in the rear when unloaded anyway!

Ummm... I didn't know they came in two different settings. I just figured that since the factory subaru rear struts have KYB etched on them as well that these would be the best replacements possible for the money outlaid.

There was only one part number in the book so that was that... They have to be better than the second hand units I keep replacing my shot ones with!

i ran KYB rears which took an pretty good beating, then Guy bought them off me. Not sure what happened after he bought them but they were good to me and i'd get them again in a heart beat.

Well Paul, they're gas and the only part number available. I'd be keen to hear what the difference is between gas and oil when you've got the chance.

Welp, all done and I think I've gained some lift - probably due to solid bushes in the bottom end - my last ones were completely shot.

It could also be that I've not got any weight in the rear end - no fuel in the jerry can and nothing in the cargo area. I've got just under half a tank of fuel by the gauge which is pretty much right at this point...

I did bought struts on ebay, they were "NOS" and when I got them it had no gas left in them and after exchanged emails and the seller accepted to have them returned and invited me to the factory where he sent items off (at that time no pickup was allowed) and I went through what I was looking for and scored good set. That was about 4 years ago.

You gotta ask questions and make sure if he accept returns, if no returns can be something dodgy with them.

Genuine ones from factory are oil filled and this is why they last a lot longer than the gas ones. The gas ones are perfect and ride very nice and due to the pressures, they will change the ride height untill they start loosing pressure, this can take years depending on driving conditions. The more 4X4 driving you do, the faster they will wear out.

I prefer to use the replacement KYB shocks whenever a customer needs new struts. The only down side to the new ones, is they don't have the adjustable capability but not many people use that feature anyway.

Most extreme 4X4 shocks use oil due to keeping pressures down when they are getting use heavily. The higher the pressures the harder the ride and the higher chance of failure but we don't really go to these extremes in our Subies.
