rear bearing lock rings - 221 Nm !! yeah ??

Surely when I undid the lock ring on my rear trailing arm hub of my 4WD Brumby it was not tight tight. Did it in the vice on the bench.
Now, on reassembly with new bearings and some Timken red grease I find the torque is pretty bloody high, maybe higher than torque wrench is gonna read for this lock ring.
I know to get similar tight for the drive axle nuts we all jump on long bars.
What do others do for the inner lock ring torqueing ??
