I had my head under the bum of a , was it 98, 99 2000 ? VW Beetle, with the FWD engine set up - new generation with the dicky flower sales concept.

I spied a rather long and slender rear shock with an interesting top mounting plate that bolted up at a similar angle to L
It may be an option for someone to look at if needing something different , say on a raised Subaru.....just saying

You would need to make a top bracket to suit the "MY" bolt holes as I have on my brumby, but they would look great

Ooo they look great. Wonder what kind of weight they would hold? Atm I'm running FWD L series rear shocky with the standard height honda civic front spring and it's nice and level unloaded but sags when loaded up. To the point of snapping the spring seat clean off hitting a bump. Resolved this problem with longer bump stops which when loaded up the car sits on the whole time. So maybe too long Those VW shocks look like they have a very long spring which might be soft..

It would have to be a fair bit of weight as the old bugs are rear engined

I wouldn't say early bugs have much weight as the air cooled vw engine was fairly light. But you could have springs made to whatever strength you like.

Those new generation bugs have got a coil sitting quite freely, almost lift out squish in type, not on shock itself. Gees TOONGA, never cease to amaze with your resourcefulness !

Jonno I found them when I was searching for the shocks Nubaru described, I thought they would have a probable use for the brumby or MY wagon.

Paul remember the VW transmission swung off those shocks as well.

You mean that tiny little thing at the front of the engine that combined with the engine wouldn't weigh more than 150kg but there isn't a lot of weight in the back of an L.Series.. UNTIL you load them up. Which is why I'm responding for John's info.

I said brumby and wagon not L series

and yes... using these shocks on any of the 3 vehicles I would question them under a heavy load.

It would be nice to be able to buy a set to experiment

Most likely but I don't have a shortcut to my favourites like some people
