[MY] rear trailing arm poly bush size

Post by Green_eyed_liberty » Wed Nov 11, 2015 7:18 pm

hi crew, having issues with replacing the rear trailing arm bush on a Brumby

i went and purchased the SPF1097K hoping it was going to be that easy..

removed the rear trailing arms, pressed the old bush out.. went to press the new bushes in.. BUGGA! the new bushes are alot smaller than the hole!

the old bush (including the sleeve) is 36mm in diameter
the old bust (without the sleeve) is 31mm in diameter
the new bush is 28mm in diameter

That is annoying! I know only too well this pain, I went through the same thing with front LCA bushings. I found with them there were 2 different sizes with the smaller diameter being on earlier models. Maybe it is the same with the rears, might be worth checking the Nolathane website because they have dimensions listed for theirs. Another important dimension is the length, if you buy a set with the right dia. but wrong length the crush tube will be wrong.

Also, I approve of the use of verniers ;)
Will it ever end!?
-EA81 TWIN CARB!!!!

ended up going to a suspension mob that specialise in Superpro. ended up finding a bush to suit a Ford Ranger that will suit (sort of, needed to trim about 5mm off one side) and should be good to go.

now just need to hand pack the bearings (because the bearing is too big to fit in the auto jobbie :-( ) and whack it all in

Actually the listing for Front Lower control arm inners differs only in that the larger size is if you fully removed the Factory bush including the outer sleeve, If however you just remove the rubber and not the steel outer sleeve of the factory bush that is why they list a smaller size.

MY, MV (Late Brumby's) and L series all use the same Lower control arm Inner bush from the Factory and the larger size listed is 28mm according to most sources and that just happens to be the OD of a new Factory replacement rubber bush I just bought some from Subaru though I had to supply them the bloody part numbers.

and those part numbers coxy ?

When you think about the years that the assembly plants or lines had on offer MV Brumby, L Series 4WD wagons, FWD EJ stuff, AWD EJ stuff ......
