EA82 knuckles on Brumby?

Post by Phizinza » Fri Sep 14, 2007 3:17 pm

It has come to my attention that to use the front driveshafts from an EA82 in an EA81 you need the knuckle as well. This is because the seal on the inner side of the knuckle is bigger on the EA82s and the EA82 shaft in the EA81 knuckle fits, but destroys the seal. I've also been told the caliper on the EA82 mounts slightly different. So to put the EA82 knuckles on what do I need from the EA82? the knuckle and the caliper are obvious, but do I need the disc? The hub? Is the shocker mount the same? Steering stuff all the same? Handbrake setup the same?

I'm using EA82 shafts as they are longer and with the modded control arms the stock EA81's aren't long enough.

Cheers.

i am currently using

L Steering Knuckle
L Disks
L Caliper
MY Handbrake Cable
L Driveshaft
L Lower Control Arm
L Hubs
L Strut + Spring with MY Top
Tierod End from SV11 Toyota Camry 1983-1987
Custom Radius Rods (35mm High Tensile Threaded Rod)

you should be able to use MY Struts with The L knuckle tho
and MY hubs work with the steering knuckle, but arent ideal as they dont all line up properly (or so ive been told)

oh and heres a pic to give you an idea on the camber (full of water so is sitting a bit low) pretty aggresive tho

You can also use a MY outer CV on an L Outer. The splines are the same, only difference is the seal edge. (read this is what i have) Either way you do it, it is an awesome mod to improve handling / tyre wear

I tried getting the CV off the EA81 shaft and had no luck :(

I took measurements and cut the L series control arms to perfect length as the left one needed to be 20mm (yes, 20mm!!!) longer (something bent in my brumby, think its got to do with the strut tower.) I now have between 0.5 and 1 degree of negative camber. I tried just L arms but I didn't like that much negative camber, looked out of place and I was unsure on tyre wear. I'm using falcon radius rods with the thread lengthend by 30mm (using the lythe) and the other ends cut down a bit.

I'm looking at getting new brakes from some other 4x4 IS truck. Will be more work, but I get to keep 6 stud and have much bigger better brakes. Ahh, we'll see. Cos money is a problem right now.

But if my bearing starts making real noise at least I now know all I need. Cheers guys.
