lower / shorter / weaker rear L springs...

Hi all, The vortex is WAY to high at the back, it is AWD, are 2WD L sedan springs weaker? or something like that? want to drop the back a couple of inches. Possibly need some springs that are same length, but weaker...
any help much appreciated...

Lowered springs?

Be aware that if you go changing the spring height by too much (or at all) you alter the angle of the CV and can accelerate wear. Most seem to think and inch or so is OK though.

Does it have adjustable rear spring cups like the L-Series? If so, they may be on the high setting.

the adjustable spring cups you speak of, do you mean they have 2 bolts like the front MY 4WD struts?
If so, then no, it doesnt have them!

No, the bottom cup has 3 positions it can twist to for adjusting the height, you need some spring compressors to do it. This would be the same as early L-Series, have a look at it and let us know.

I have found the rear coils of an L FWD look to be same as those of 4WD. I have had both out next to each other and they do not look like they would lower my high up in the air arse either ! I salvaged and polished up the coils for this idea in mind. IT DONT WORK.

I put L series sedan rear coils in my wagon and it sits quite lowish.
The ride is much smoother too...
Probably not much help with a Vortex though.

You can get yours reset for about $100.

I think the aim here is to reduce the ride height not decrease the spring rate .

Unless you intend to buy some micky mouse rear dampers the only way to do
this to fit a slip over adjustable lower spring seat and different fitted height springs .

People say that inverting the top body mount gets you around 15mm .

Another way is to fabricate lower strut mounts on your semi trailing arms so the struts sit lower in relation to the arms .

I'm pretty sure that you'll find the 2wd L series rear shocks (complete units) will raise the rear end by about an inch. This is due to different mounting points on the trailing arm - the 4wd set has to be shorter due to the CV shaft, where as the 2wd item mounts where the CV shaft would be passing through...

I'm sure a suspension shop will beable to help - just watch those CV angles!

OK, just entering some fact to Discos comment on flipping top shock mounts in L Series/Vortex stuff. Not only do you flip them, the face out section now faces in to retain all angles for mounting and shock top. The rubbers need some attention to retain fatter one at the bottom of mountng order, or put up with whatever happens as a result of usng them upside down.

A flipped mount beside a yet to be flipped mount gave me thirty five (35) mm difference in shock. How that translates to th cars sit height - yet to find out.

Think novices like me also get tricked in physical comparison of free spring height or not noticing the differng lower coil seat positins of the various models.

I was also considering making a new top seat for the spring as they have a dish at the top before the seat. Was considering the round flats you can buy for hand rail mounting to foot paths or walls and make it into a new cup but a flat on, still did not beat the tall spring springing issue likely to evolv

Very kind of you Neville, save me from more grief eh. Get this , Suzuki Mighty Boys and 96-98 Sierra LJ80 use a spring in the front that may just work height wise
