Gday all, just wondering where i would buy a lift kit for a 98-03 era outback.

any good 4x4 parts shop? or are there specialist subaru places to get the gear from, im in geelong vic, but traveling a little wouldn't be a concern.

now, i dont have an outback yet, just doing some research before purchasing

ah ok, i did see that thread but didnt see where it mentioned GEN 3 outbacks, are they similar in suspension to the GEN 2's?

another thing, are there any negatives / drawbacks from doing the lift?. will it flog out bushes? cause alignment issues? or is it all pretty straight forward?.

from what i can tell, the front crossmember and struts get dropped and spacers put in place, which keeps the CV's at a good angle.

how exactly is the rear done? just bigger springs and struts?

same as the front....the crossmember and everything drops down and creates what we call a body lift...so the driveline remains all in place and the body is lifted around it

Pretty much the same as the front.

Picture it as raising the cabin 2" (or whatever) above the "chassis". The motor, drivetrain, suspension & wheels stay where they are.

Dave [SWK ]will build it to suit.He will be building my outback lift ,it's a Gen 3.

All is you need raised king springs and will give you extra 1" lift, but I know there is lift blocks around that goes under the car for cross members etc, yes will lower engine depending the size of the blocks.

It only "appears" as though the engine is lower. In actual fact it is the same height for a 2" kit and actually an inch higher in a 3" kit.

My old car with 3" lift (Vidlers new one) had an extra 70mm of clearance at the sump compared to an Outback with a 2" kit. It had 3" lift strut tops with 40mm cross member blocks. The 33mm Outback cross member blocks were not in there either. Add it all together and it is 70mm difference with only an inch difference in the kit size.

Plus the extra lift you get from the larger diametre tyres! It's one tall car!
