different fuel providers..

so i'm starting to think that bp and shell provide higher grade fuels.... story goes, basically the engine in my car is an early jdm therefore i believe its tuned for higher octane so i run 98 in it which is fine if i fill up with bp ultimate or shell v-power but if i run low on fuel near a competitor and fill up there it sends my knock sensor nuts.. might be just a faulty unit but fair to say ill be sticking with v-power/ultimate from now on... which is good after just puttin 100 worth of 98 from caltex in.

when I worked under a fuel company banner i thought it was shell and bee pee were from same refinery, then there was caltex was another supplier. Now, who knows where some fuel comes from ....Indonesia was said to be the northern supplier

Any JDM car will run like a pig on anything less than 98 as they are all designed to run on 100ron, my Liberty runs on 98 without a problem but if I do a track day or drags I always put octane booster in as a precaution too.

if my car was turbo i would run premium but i dont notice a difference in the forester between premium and normal 91 unleaded in power, fuel economy and how the car runs

yeh it's still 98 octane but from caltex, sounds outlandish but she just hates that fuel company by the looks of things

My outback is JDM and it runs much nicer on 98 from shell or BP when compared to caltex 98.

My JDM engine, non turbo runs better on 98 BP or shell too. I though it was just me. Good to know:)

Mine loves BP but also runs pretty good (and mostly) on Liberty/United which apparently comes from Singapore, I've never tried Shell and only used Caltex once in 7yrs...........Still getting close to 600kl to a 60L tank around town, I wish the blue thing was close to that economical lol.

I too use 98 in my AUDM ej25, its still seems to make a difference over 91 in fuel economy and power(slight). i normally use shell it seems to be alot better than caltex/mobil. never used BP as the one near me always has higher prices than the shell across the road.

yes it may be only 8-12cents more on average but i have never gotton more economy in either of my 2 foresters so i dont think its worth it

Really? I find I get about 80+km more to a tank on 95 (Caltex Vortex) compared to Caltex 91. I 98% of the time use Caltex.
I refuse to use BP as their prices are outrageous.

yep realy, actualy in the new forester last tank using premium i got worse. dont no how!
i deffently notice if i run the car on e10 (ethonal) i get about 50ks less per tank but premium i much the same as normal unleaded

well im on the second tank in a row now in the new auto forester last fill up with normal unleaded was 38ltr to 410k so ill see how the premium goes

E10??? You can get ethonal in Aus?

not in WA.

ive never had any problems with fuel. Only ever use shell, caltex or BP, but 90% of the time its BP.

I think being selective with your fuel makes a MASSIVE difference, never fill up in evening or after a hot day, you get more fuel and less fumes when the fuel is a cooler temperature (ie early morning)

also never ever fill up when the tanker is there re-filling the station, it stirs up all the shit in the underground tanks which hence gets picked up by the bowsers and put into your car.

ive found in both my gen3 liberty and gen3 outback that running 98octane improves effieciency by 10-15%, it burns cleaner, more power etc. You may pay more at the bowser but its worth it, not only in the short term, but also in the long run as im 100% sure its better for the motor.

Living in the Newcastle area all our petrol comes from Sydney via a pipe line their is over a million litters of fuel in this line. When BP starts pumping their fuel into the line it has to be placed between two other fuel types of the same grade or they don't send it. their is a amount of mixed contamination in the pipe line its under pressure at all times the contaminated fuel gets trucked back to Sydney and is refined again. so BP is trying to say their fuel is the cleanest on the market. In the states USA they are using home made kits producing hydrogen to save on fuel costs, easy to make and use

yea e10 is normal unleaded with up to 10% ethonal its usually about 4 cents cheaper then normal unleaded and has a octane rating of 95 vs 91 of normal unleaded so actualy get more power but less fuel economy.

yeah my L came with a hydrogen set up when i bought it. the guy claimed 4L/100ks! he said it wasn't working well though. i just ripped it out :P
