factory headunit differences

Post by brumbyrunner » Wed Mar 26, 2008 11:48 pm

Are the Subaru double din headunits all the same mounting system?

Reason is, I've still got the orignal single din cassette/tuner in my 2000 GX Imprezzer and have a chance to buy a double din cd/cass/tuner out of a 2001 Forester.

So, will it bolt straight in and look factory? I dont really want to go aftermarket if I can help it. Just need a CD player.

I cant see why it wouldnt, nearly every part on a Subaru is interchangable with that of another model. Kinda like LEGO.

Thanks Matatak & Suparoo.
I was kinda hoping for a bit more difinative answer than "it should fit" before I buy the 2 din unit and pull the dash apart.

Well the DIN pocket mounting system for car audio is standard across all cars.

So yes it will bolt in, but there may be a difference in the facia surround that mightnt fit

Cant you take your Impreza to somewhere that sells 2nd hand Forester headunits and test fit it?

Impreza and Liberty are the same. Even if the Forester mounts are different you can unscrew the brackets from the units and screw the Impreza one on.

under the current head unit im guessing you have a tissue pocket? if so then when you take the single din unit out and the tissue pocket you will get ur double din , there should be enough there to mount it off, so i say give it a go :D

OK thanks guys.
I thought if there was a glaringly obvious difference or difficulty in fitting then someone would have told me so I'll give it a go.

I feel the need to explain....

This is for my mothers car. She wants to play CDs but still retain the cassette player as well. I looked at going aftermarket but it would be overkill for the application. Plus the rest of the car is stock and a big shiny double din headunit would just look silly.

Well it's a success!
Looks stock but sounds ohhh so much better.
In case anyone else ever wonders about doing this upgrade and finds this thread, it is very easy, perhaps a 15 minute job. Our new double-din headunit came from a wrecked 2000 Forester so had a 6 disc in-dash stacker, tuner & tape deck. The mounting points and plugs were identical, right down to the earth tab and the little locating dowls.
Total cost was $160 and that included the 6 discs that we found inside!

Congratulations, and you wouldnt take our word for it when we said "it might or should fit"

What discs where in there?

Can you simply tell if Runescape is a great game maplestory powerleveling or not without you becoming a member? The answer to that would be, NO! Well you can make a few predictions about Runescape and see the moral of the game when being a regular user and not a member but becoming a member brings a whole lot of additions to Runescape that you would never see if you were not a member. Being a member of Runescape has so many benefits and I will try to list them all here for you. Runescape tells you them, but I'm going to detail it a few features for you here. runescape money

Good to hear ... the new brumby has a liberty double din headunit in it, so will keep my eyes open for any wrecked fozzers.
