Good thinng I looked here

Post by cybergod » Fri Sep 03, 2010 12:16 am

Hey all. Good thing I was sitting here and stumbled on this thread.1 Am about to install a CD unit (older Pioneer I have used in about 3 other cars) and had the sudden realisation that it is probably too long.

My life has now been made easier, knowing I have to get the facia. I may try without it first though (got to be sporting eh? :-?) and maybe locate a little lower?

Will look to post pics when done. Hopefully this weekend.;)

OK, seriously, went to Repco and Supercrapo this morning, in Derwent Park, Tasmania.

Both carry the facia (Part number FP9055), and will have to order it in.

Prices:

Repco $45.00

Supercrapo $52.00 (this includes their passing on of $8.95 for frieght).

Hope it helps.

NO Need for spacer no more - FINALLY

Post by hsronline » Mon Oct 24, 2011 5:57 pm

Hi all, just let you all know you no longer have to buy or make a spacer faceplate for L Series SUbarus. I have solved that problem of no rear space. I have bought a stereo from EBay that is only 130mm deep. PERFECT. It has aux in, sd card and usb input including Bluetooth for handsfree calling. Cost me $75 delivered. I have put pictures in y albums check it out.
Hip hip Hooray, got quality beats pumping now with no ugly spacer or faceplates. Brand is Geartag came from Hing Kong was here via Fedex in three days. Quality of sound is fantastic. Bought some JVC $50 speakers and it cranks.

Would be nice if they had double DIN version.

Sweet - minor trimming of the fascia obviously, do you just add a single DIN pocket underneath or is that a Subaru size one?
Cheers,
Andrew

Just found this one too - http://www.ryda.com.au/Axis-AX-1100-Car ... ax1100.htm

ALOT smaller than the eBay one, 86mm deep versus 130mm. But eBay seems to have more features.

Edit: Bluetooth model - http://www.ryda.com.au/Axis-AX-1102BT-C ... 1102bt.htm

Looks like a nice unit.

And the price!

I recall paying $400+ for a ex-demo Pioneer when CD players first hit mainstream...

yeah but if the car is just going to run up and down a beach or drive around in the bush, destroying a cheap stereo is better than a $500 + unit

:) (guess who is looking for a cheap stereo)

But even a 300 dollar unit would last 5 times longer and have more features to properly support amps and have a decent onboard power output.

I reckon the aerpro spacer kits look shit hot and 1000000xxx times better than factory.

I have had no issues with this stereo, The spacers look absoultly crapola. Flush mounted looks so much better. More features like what exacty? This has SD, USB, Aux in. MP3's Bluetooth which you can stream music from iphone to stereo without cables, and can use it as hands free for phone calls. Also come with remote. Tell me what other features stereos have. It does have amp output also. Some people are just ignorant.

lmao mate...dont start me.

ignorance is bliss....apparantly, but id dare say my knowledge of car stereo is far above your 'ebay quality' status.

the sound quality of these units are terrible. Theyre slow. They allow for ONE sub preout which isnt a feature, its a killing factor. 4x45w, brand name decks had this amount of power 10years ago. No sub level control, bass and treble control only, no graphic equalizers or frequency controls. All these 'features' make for a great sounding deck indeed. Id really like to see the in-depth stats for one of these units.

Sure theyre great for $80, but you get what you pay for in every single aspect.

im sure this deck will definately push the stock paper cone speakers in the old cars to their total maxed out limits!

you also missed my point

'If you're semi serious these eBay things are terrible quality.'

if you just want to run the stock speakers and are looking for a cheap deck replacement then theres nothing wrong with this deck. If youre after anything else, id be looking elsewhere.

I installed some JVC speakers in the front and it does its job. Look mate, if you want to run a serious system in your car. Your system will be worth more than your L series, that is intelligence for you. In regards to subs etc, I have a pimped out forester with all that. I dont go cruising for girls in the L series so no need for pimp my ride. This is a great alternative to the push am/fm stock stereo. Yes replace the paper speakers, like I did. And all the facias I am sorry look tacky, look aftermarket and stick out like dogs nuts. So flush is the only way to go. Unfortunalty you are limited in the stereos you can choose. But I have not wanted a silly looking facia and when I found this I thought I would let everyone know. SO saying all that. This stereo in my L series is absoultly GOLD.
