L series stereo

Post by julian » Wed Jun 28, 2006 7:53 pm

Hi people,
I want to put a small stereo in my newly found L series tourer, and looking for some advice.

Where can i source a plastic surround for the centre console so it can accomodate a DIN sized stereo?

What sized speakers will fit in the factory seaker places, front and rear? I know anything will fit i you try hard enough (eg 6x9s) but want to utilise to standard mounts.

Thanks

Julian

std int he doors is a 4.5" now with a bit of work you can get a 6" in it. rears are the same again.

as for the panel - the unit is shallow and a normal one WILL NOT fit neatly with out a LOT of work and relocation.

if you can find a radio that controls a stacker and a later radio facia (93/94) with brackets and pocket then I can help out.

Got quoted for 45 bucks just for the facia surround, and if it is a lot of work to fit a head unit I will probably just pay for the labour and get the local strathfield to do it for me- there is a bloke there who reckons he did one a couple of years ago and knows what is involved

The fronts are may be four and a halfs, but the rears look a lot larger from the exterior... It is a touring wagon if this makes any difference.

Strathfield Main North Road in SA.
Thanks for the offer but wrong state!!!
So both fronts and rears are 4.5s??????
Is it worth going splits in the front and simple speakers in the back with my existing 8 inch sub (Peerless!!) and amp to enhance bottom end oomph?

yes it is. use a 4ch on the front and sub and run the OEM rears off the radio.
