can't fit my stereo in my L series.
can't fit my stereo in my L series.
G'day
I was hoping my first post wouldn't be a " I need help" post but I've spat the chewy trying to do this install and now I need help. I just bought a 88 sportswagon and i'm tring to fit a pioneer dvd player and clarion screen. The widths and everything are fine but can't get enough depth to install it in properly so it doesnt foul the gear stick when the screen is out. They both stick out about 20mm too far. Is there anything I can do to get it to fit? Thanks for any help in advanvce.

Nah, his issue is the unit extends out too much and the gearstick hits the screen - meaning he either can't use the screen or can't use 1st, 3rd and 5th gears
Am I correct?
I think your best options would be to bend the gearstick back a bit, like previously mentioned, or do what I was originally contemplating and mount the HU in the bottom tray, at the bottom centre of the dash... It would involve alot of work cutting plastics, making brackets and more than likely fibreglass work to make it a viable option - but that seemed alot of work for very little gain IMO hence why I have no plans of doing so..
Good luck mate

Yep, only possible way is to bend the gearstick. This doesn't really even effect the way it feels so shouldn't be much of a prob.
Either that or...
- Custom mount stereo in glove box
- Custom mount stereo in a different section of the dash board
- Remove heater core completely
- Mount engine and gearbox further back in the car
- Cut firewall and relocate dashboard inside the engine bay
