How to remove the factory head unit from a Liberty 93` Gx

i am trying to put my kenwood head unit in my liberty and its a bitch to get it out any tips or tools i need?? and how do the wires connect up eg wiring diagram?

You just need two screw drivers. Both phillips head. One about 6 inches long and one stumpy driver.

Take out the ash tray.
Use the stumpy screw driver under neath where the ash tray was and undo the 2 screws.
Take out the drink holder. Undo the 2 screws behind there.
Slide the drink holder tray out.
Undo the next two screws.
From the top gently pull out the black plastic surround and unclip it from the bottom.
You will then find 6 screws around the radio. 4 at the front. 2 half way up in the middle about 80-100mm in.

Any twisted pair wires you find in the harness are speaker wires.
Use a test lamp (about 5 bucks) to find the switched power and teh hot at all times power.
The black one is earth.

Follow your instructions with the radio.

Re-assemble in reverse order.

On a side note, you will find that your new head unit will have it's own screws to mount it to the Liberty radio chassis. Simply line it up with the tray that is below your radio for in/out alignment. You won't need your head unit surround. It will fit neatly in the Liberty surround. As long as it is DIN size any way.

You can also buy an LX tray (wreckers or here) for under the radio to close up the gap you will end up with.

mate u know ur stuff good on ya umm also what size speakers would my liberty have? 6" at the front and 4" at the back?

They aren't 6 in the front. Some one will correct me but I think the size is 5 1/4. Might be 4 1/4, what ever that size is around there. There is also tweeters in the little triangle thing near your mirror too. Not sure on standard rear speakers. I do know you can fit 8's in there quite easily.

I fitted some to our gen 2 Liberty. Good base but not doof doof base.

well i forgot to add my 12" 1000watts plus my 2 x 6" splits with 200wats peak power doof doof will happen lol

I've fitted 6" 1/2 in the front of mine, wagon. I beleive they were that or straight 6" and the same with the two back speakers... I don't think the two little tweeters are in gen1s.

Question: Do gen1s go to 94 and gen2s start at 93 or something?

I have a 92 lib which ive taken the radio/tape player completly out of and then found that the plugs didnt fit in the cd player i bought, HELP?

get it fitted by a pro.

or find a wiring diagram and chop the necessary wires off the existing harness to match up with your new headunit. Its not that hard really.

no stereos ever just plug in strait to the factory plugs.

black = ground
yellow = battery or accessory +ve
red = the other
the rest (usually matched pairs) = speakers. experiment with balance and fader until you get them right.

Or go to somewhere like Ripco and buy an adapter.

but as alex said if you're not sure, get someone else to do it.

I have found its much easier and portable to leave the harness alone on the car side of the harness. Cut the harness off the old radio and chuck the radio out (aint worth a pinch of coon shit anyway). Then solder/wire in your head unit harness to this one.

Neater, cleaner and easily swapped to another series of the same car, or any other car that uses the same "car" side of the harness.

for $50 installation worth getting a sound shop to do it if you are at the point whereby you thinks a AM unit will plug in to the OME loom
