The section indicated by the red arrow is the display board of some vehicle warning or advisory lights. If it was in a four door model it can indicate which of four doors is open - individually, not just a common door open light. Also contains indicator lights when 4WD is slected, also hi and lo range selctor lights, handbrake on, brake fluid low.
The image is a diagram of the vehicle. Door lights are where doors are on the diagram. At the front of the diagram (top) are two blue lights that indicate when high beam is in operation.
A tacho would be an ideal instrument in this position !

A tacho would be good but I LOVE this instrument. It is such a unique thing to have on the dash & instantly identifies a Subaru MY or Brumby.
I wish it was on my Foz

TOONGA fitted a 52mm outside diameter gauge in the space where the clock is. The gauge fitted easily. Possibly you can get a 52mm tacho for that position
Has anyone noticed the lack of fresh or recycle air supply buttons in the central control panel?
LHD have indicator and light control switch on left hand side too by the looks

USDM had similar centre dash section without fresh / recirculating buttons. They have a large Subaru sticker instead.
The rotary switches are quite different from ours, maybe the AU design wouldn't meet Euro crash standards with the pointy shape. What are yours like Giles ?

1989 Brumby - Shiny new red paint, stroked EJ20 phase 2 SOHC with Darton sleeves bored to EJ22, Wiseco high-compression pistons, Delta 2000 grind cams , EJ/XT6 5 stud with WRX 4/2 pots, 5-speed, 86 GTS seats and so much more.

I have full manual control mode damper fresh air / recirculation, so where you have buttons and air-conditioner, I just stub. And the clock, I would like to remain, but already there in the circumstances.steptoe wrote:TOONGA fitted a 52mm outside diameter gauge in the space where the clock is. The gauge fitted easily.
