New Vortex owner in Sydney
New Vortex owner in Sydney
Just bought myself a surprise package /barn find Vortex to add to my collection of cars. I have a few Toyota MR2 AW11s and MR2 Spyders. Thought I would get a big brother for the AW's. Car has been in storage for 15 years so it will be interesting to see how much needs to be done to it. I have not even sen it yet in person as its in Bris and I am in Sydney. Heading up today? to pick it up . Its the Turbo model as well. Hope to get it up and running and keep it stock if possible. An engine upgrade and new brake/ hub set up is possible and would be good but having the rare stock car works for me. My 89 SC AW is almost stock too. Will get some picks and fill in details when I know some more myself.
Thats the one. Yeh pics did not show much so it will be a surprise when I get to see it. First thing is see if I can get air in the flat tyres to get it onto the trailer. If its too bad it will be wrecked but I hope its good enough to resurrect. Will be a surprise either way.steptoe wrote:Was that the one looked like a front cut from an online bidding house working in 100 dollar lots, plus buyer premium, white and ended up 409 dollars ?

Well got the car on the trailer after 2 hours. THEN I found a hidden key on it that would have made things a little easier. Body needs some work ( dings not rust) They tried breaking into boot so bit of damage there broke the centre SUBARU plastic in doing it. Has a heap of paperwork on mechanical repairs and maintanence so looks good there. Tried starting it was not going to have much luck with 15yr old petrol. Will drain the tank and put some fresh stuff in and se how she goes. Sounded strong trying to turn over. Just over 100Ks. Get some pics up when I get an account to store them somewhere. Only reason I found the key in the end was because there was a leak from under the car in an odd spot and I was checking it when it was on the trailer and saw it was coming from a drain tube behind rear wheel. Had stored fluid top up bottles in boot compartments and one leaked out. But key was tied up just near where tube was. At todays rate for a months hire on the unit he would have paid $90K over the 15 years.

DavesB4 is the user you are looking for.. That's my old man. Him and I did the build on the WRBlue Vortex. Although it needs a bit more love now it's been on the road for a few years..Smokey wrote:Hey champ sounds like a great surprise. I'm in Penrith too. Would be great to catch up. Ok will have to catch up for you to have a look and give me some pointers. Going to get a spare battery in it this arvo and have a fiddle around. need to drain the fuel too so I can put some fresh stuff in and kick it over. felt like it would when I tried briefly on the Goldie. Biggest mission at the moment will be a new windscreen? The rain on way home and yesterday helped clean some of the build up of dust off at least.
Dont know of a wrecker around with one of these do you?

Well whadya know 15 yr old petrol still works. Had a chance to get out to the car and fiddle with it a bit and thought I would try starting it again. Took a while but it started up . Was idling under 5000 and lumpy but holding revs a bit higher it felt smooth. Surprised it all worked having sat so long . When I get a chance I will get it off the trailer and run it around the block and see how she goes.
