Fair price.

Post by disley » Fri Nov 18, 2011 2:32 pm

Hi, I'm in Sydney and am going to look at an engine and gearbox from an 1986 brumby sports that's being wrecked.
I know they're in good condition.
What would be a fair price to offer?

$2.00 ha ha..... And hopefully that trend sticks, so when I need a new engine I can get it cheap too ( just joking, don't get the lynch mob onto me ) :p

If the motor is in good condition, low kms and compression 150 psi or above on all cylinders and the gearbox is as well, between 400-500 dollars is cheap for both.

there was a brumby dual range gearbox on ebay (seems the auction has ended) that had an opening bid of 200 dollars.

that gear box on ebay did not sell so a Box is not worth $200, well that is the way I look at it anyway. A good running motor from a private person that you are happy with would be worth up to $500. From a buisness then up to $1K. BUT an offer of $300 for the box and motor is not unrealistic. If you have the money in front of them and it is here and now, it is usaualy a done deal.
I have bought motors with very new clutch and starter motor of metal recyclers for $100
