Hello all,

Well I just purchased a Subaru L series Wagon, 1988 model, I plan on using it for next years Shitbox Rally, I have taken part in the last 2 rallys, 1st in a 1975 Fiat 131, then this year in a 1958 Humber Super Snipe (painted up like a USA Taxi ) !! we where on sunrise in the Humber.

For 2014 my wife and I have decided to do the rally in a little for comfort, so thats when the L series comes into play, I have owned a 2006 outback in the past and was very impressed with the car, unfortunatly I sold it to buy a V8 now thats gone aswell

any tips on what to check, repair, add and what spares you suggest would be great, in turn if anyone has any questions about the rally feel free to ask, here is a link to our facebook page you will see pics from the last 2 rallies and up dates on the Subaru as the rally gets closer

replace fusible links, hook up a spare fuel pump so it can be activated with flick of a switch, and depending on whether you get a carby or efi EA82

Hello, it's a carby model car,

Yeah a spare pump is on the list,

I suggest as well for anyone taking part

- extra window washer sprayers
- spare wiper blades
- a complete set of belts
- radiator flush
- spare radiator hoses
- couple of spare wheels
- a good esky or fridge
- plenty of water
- decent UHF radio
- comfy seats
- at least one jerry can for fuel
- a working fuel gauge or speedometer

As Steptoe has said, replace the fusible links - even better is to use late model fuses as common on many fords:





Works a treat and is very simple to do.

I'd carry a drive shaft for the front and the rear, spare air filter, the usual spare fuses. Also chuck in a ball joint, I've seen what you need to do to bush mechanic one of these and it's not easily done!

Other than that I don't think there's anything else I can add as I've not done an endurance rally before.
