MY Red Brum Blog Thread
Have done some work on the roll bar.
She was in pretty bad shape, with lots of scratches and gouges.
Some of this work was done a month ago.
1st step was to rub the big gouges back with 80grit with my corner cat sander.
2nd rube the entire bar back with 120grit anti clog then 240 then 240 aluminum oxide grit.

Holes were welded up and top weld on bar was redone cause it looked like duck poo.
3rd blast the feet.
4th cut the entire bar back with a 4" stitched cotton wheel and "Cutting" compound using a 4" angle grinder. This was to slow and painfull so I fitted a 6" cotton wheel but after 1/2hr smoke stared to come from the angle grinder.

Went back to the pnematic 4" angle grinder and the 6" cotton wheel.
It is a bit slower not as effecient but is A LOT safer.
Done some more with the cutting compound.
Still some more work with the cutting compound to go though.

more polishing. I reckon this is more work than preping and painting.
Went and bought a loose calaco wheel and some finishing polish.
Went over it again whit the ploishn wheel, then by hand with purple polish.
removed all the polish with wax n grease remover.
etch primed and 2K red the feet.
2K clear over the entire bar.
Have drilled a couple of holes in the lower sides of the bar for the LED brake light strip that will be going on top of the bar.

some self adhesive red LED's glue used as well cause the adhesive strip is known to unstick on a hot day a quick wireing harness and shazam !!
Just have to tap into the brake light circuit from inside the back of the body, drill a hole fo the cable to come out and fit a gromet, then I can fit the roll bar.

Thanks fellas.
To fit the bar.
I drilled the holes, removed the swarf.
painted the bare metal ie inside the holes with 2K
then fitted the bar with stainless screws n nuts.
I may paint over the SS bolts so they cant be seen so easy and only the tubes on the bar are noticed.
Next I have to work out where and how my UHF aerial is to be mounted.

This is most brilliant!!! I myself have a 1990 Red Brumby man in my life and am currently in the process of collecting the various tools and things i'll need as I want to do a similar refurbish job to you but also put in a new engine and refurbish the current one. Trick for me is, i'm no mechanic and don't actually know any (hmmmmmm :/) however i know generally the tools i'll need to refurbish the old man and might need to start chatting up some mechanics to get some internals assistance. Thanks for all the tips!! Greatly appreciated

Hey Pocket. it is pretty rewarding when the job is done, I purchased a car buff which would have been much better to polish the bar with the cotton wheel fitted. The bar is still shiney as the clear coat has protected it.
me poor old brumby hasent had much attention since i bought a boat, actualy more like 5 boats have come and gone but I have kept 3 new ones.
Looking at another Brumby as a doeruper.
