yeah - that was a dig at Paul - he wants my H6 for his outback - was trying to make him offer me more money if he thinks I want to keep it for myself

I don't really want a H6 - they are too long for the Brumby engine bay too. I know you can squeeze them in but I am just going to stick with an EJ motor.

??? Eh? Rotary wont fit ?? Its already been done before Ken - so it must fit in there.
Take a Time out and maybe get a few opinions as to how to proceed.
Cripes some folks have dropped in H6's so how does a tiny mazda fizzer not fit ?

AFAIK it has been done to only one other MY car - not sure how he did it as I (nor anyone else) have seen photos of it.

But I can tell you an EJ motor is approx 400mm long, an EZ H6 is only about420mm and the rotary is about 530 !!

It will physically fit but then it doesn't leave room for a decent radiator or FMIC and I am not prepared to mount the radiator in the rear or modify the radiator support panel.

One of the old forum members here shoved a 13B into an MY coupe. It was blue, but I'm guessing the changes you've made to the floor pan could be the difference.

Yeah that was kwijmbo - been in touch with him last year but he hasn't responded to any PM's lately.

Floor changes shouldn't make any difference as the gearbox should still be in the same location to get the wheels in the centre of the wheel arches.

If I get a chance next week I will bolt everything up to the chassis to make sure my measurements are correct.

But lets face it rotary or STi its still gonna be quick

I believe there may be an easy solution - get a new pair of eyes !!

I was in the shed for another reason this morning and I thought I would just have another closer look. It turns out that even though I measured the length of the rotary over and over again I still got it wrong. Its only 430mm, not 530mm, so its virtually the same length as an EJ.

Still going to be a tight fit though.

Other remedy is to lose the gear box, move the rotor and its gearbox back and just go rear wheel drive...????

Never an option - it wouldn't be a Subaru if I did that

If I wanted RWD I'd put the rotor in a Mazda.

great motor my mate just out one in his older s12 silvia for dirfts. great engine for a N/A and doesnt require much work to strap on a turbo

i think its the toyota FG20 which is out of the supra, another good alternitive these things go like the clappers! but there nissan sylvia and skyline engines are easy to come by and good power

The supra had either a 1JZ or 2JZ inline 6 engine, not sure how well one would fit in a brumby without moving the firewall back!!

I was referring to making it RWD - but yes I did think that comment was a bit silly when I wrote it

I have a 2.5sti motor here if you need it, its needs assembly

Thanks Neil but I would be looking at buying a front cut to get the wiring harness etc etc. Plus I may just be able to squeeze the rotor in after all. WIll wait to see once I get the front end all welded back in which will be this week hopefully.
