1.9 mm steel that does put things into perspective must have been a lot of fun to shape though I know through previous posts they are all hand formed using the simplest of tools but surely you must have heated it with the oxy to get it to form!

92 targa brumby (weekend runabout),

I cant be certain if the battery box will fit all the specs you have mentioned , but it is strong. I would hate to hit my head on it , lol, and as it is only for a gel pack deep cycle to run a fridge , it should be ok. The main battery is still under the bonnet , mounted on the opposite side , on a mirror image mount.
last_celtic_warrior wrote: The battery compartment is stronger than it needs to be. It's hand formed from 1.9mm sheet steel, with gusseting ribs and floor ribs to protect the battery from possible off road impacts. If it's TOO strong, it would be like welding an anvil into the frame.

Tortional, impact and deceleration forces are taken into consideration in desgning the ribs and general shape, whilst being mindful of the effects this addition will have on the original crumple zones and vehicle systems (suspension, exhaust, fuel tank etc...). A lot more thought went into this than you can see in the finished work, as is the case with most of the work we do. And certainly a lot more has been considered than when the manufacturer designed the battery mount in the engine bay...
Ah I see. I don't know why I thought the starter would go up the back! You could probably fit a few days worth of batteries for a fridge and other things if you went with lithium cells. Of course that'd probably cost you more than the car did, so I wouldn't advise it haha.

It really is a masterpiece, this car. And all by hand! If the work I do on my brumby in the future is even a fraction of the quality shown here I'd be happy!
Living in Canada now. Looking at all these SVXs for sale...

A few more things done today. Put a coat over the out side of the battery box, fitted a liberty brake booster , modded the throttle pedal to suit the ej cable and started putting some of the fuel and brake lines in.

Great work as usual guys.

Can I ask;

Is that the original diff mount that you've painted there? If so what are you replacing the bush with?

Because I couldn't seem to find an aftermarket one, and the only one was genuine which came as a whole piece with the mount and bush.

I was wondering if I would be able to customize the bush with a similar sized urethane piece.

Cheers,

Dave-

Diff pinion mount bush is now replaced and fitted and bolted to the diff , as well as the mustache bar. Flywheel has been machined and new clutch fitted. Almost ready to fit to car.

Hey Mate, Thanks for the reminder, but it is there to remind me to tighten the pressure plate up. We don't have a alignment tool so we are going to use the gearbox before it goes into the Ute.

Does anyone have a set of electric/vacuum switches for the center diff lock.

I thought i should let people know the reason for no update for awhile. The easiest way to explain it is, body's age 40+ - brain still things it is only 20+. add a gearbox into the equation, = back pain to the point of barely able to walk. It's a bummer. I hate doing nothing. Bores me to tears , as the saying goes.

My back has felt a bit better the last couple of days. So trying to work around the pain , we got a few things done.

Fuel tank in, diff in, but just needing the drop block , Gearbox and motor sitting in there places.

Hey Mate,

To answer your questions, The ECU , if our idea works, Under the glove box. The wiring is wrapped in electrical tape , then in flex tube and wrapped in tape again. The pink plug on drivers side is already used for what it is meant for , power windows. But i had to put it in as , not standard pre 1983. As for connecting/integrating to the M.Y. wiring, haven't got that far yet. When we get that far, we will see what is what and where.

One of the little problems with putting a RX dr L series box in a brumby is, it sits to close to the sway bar. Steve now being back down, made up a couple of droppers/spaces to lower the front sway bar.
While that was happening, Ross started grinding down some welds and laying down some bog to cover the little lumps of weld left. Just waiting for it to cure over night and sand it back tomorrow , which will leave very little left.
