Does "Barnes Automotive Technologies" manufactuer magic number plates? mine has a few scratches in it, they are about 25 bucks yeah?

I really enjoyed the thread and read it from the start. BUT if you think we believe you are doing this out of the goodness of your hearts and parts only you are FOS. We have gained some useful knowledge, but please don't push the envelope it does you no favours

I have never meet Rick but from my dealings with him, I have found him to be true and honest sort of a guy, so unless you know him personally then I'd have to agree with Silverbullet... Keep your nasty opinions to yourself !!

Thank you guys. It is people like this , is one of the reasons why we stopped doing resto's.

A smart person ( not intelligent , i have met very intelligent people to intelligent to be smart.), would do a number crunch. Brumby was with us or 3 years. So i you add up 3 years wages or 3 people , that makes or a very dear subaru. People wont pay around $10 k or a turboed brumby, so who would pay $100k or a non turbo one.

What a fcking ass clown!

Rick and the whole Subie team have been nothing but honest, genuine people throughout my whole dealings with them. There isn't a post on this forum that I could possibly contradict. So unless you have intimate knowledge to the contrary, keep your uniformed negative opinions to yourself.

The brumby is going ok. I have been so busy over the last year I haven't been able to get around to finishing off the last bits of it.

Things still left to do include:

Fix a sensor issue, when the car gets warm it can temporarily cut the engine/drive while driving. Pushing the clutch it and pumping the throttle gets it going again. Thoughts on the brains trust on this would be greatly appreciated.

Rear diff, rick lent me an old open diff to borrow while I sorted out the cusco LSD which I still haven't got around to doing. I'm thinking the clutch plate style cusco is too aggressive for an AWD car that spends most of its time on the road. I think I'll try and swap it for a good/new condition viscous LSD.

Rear shocks need replacing. The OME shocks are too fat to fit with these tyres and the mount at the top has a very loud rattle (rick advised against it-lesson learned). I think I'll go back to stock shocks.

Rear tray needs stripping back and repainting, also the paint under the sills where the bumpy stone protection needs redoing.

Interior still needs to be done.

All in all still a lot to do but the little ute has come a long long way already and I can't not finish it.

Yeah agreed, that's the best way for a noob to impress the regulars. Lucky he's not doing it at someone's local drinking hole - the consequences could be a lot worse!

So quite a bit of work to go! I thought it was all done and dusted ready for a ride anytime!

Get off here and get into the shed

Cheers

Bennie

I'm even more sad now that I hear you're not doing the restos anymore Rick. I enjoyed reading your posts and was always in awe of your ability to turn these cars into masterpieces. Almost like your own TV show.. Rick's Restos :)

Does anyone have some experience with ej22 engines having issues of cutting out when hot? It seems to be intermittent and when it happens it seems to go away for a while after the engine begins to rev again. The process of pushing in the clutch and pumping the throttle until the engine revs again results in a fuel smell in the cabin for a sec. I'm not sure if the two are related or it's simply a result of one causing the other.

Rick gave me a spare set of sensors but the plugs are different. So I don't want to go purchasing sensors to fault find as cash is real limited at the moment.

I know it's not EJ22 specific, but cutting out when hot is usually the dissy module. I also know the EJ22 doesn't have a dissy.... but it does have the ignitor module. On the Liberty it is mounted in the middle of the firewall, bolted directly to the metal. Where is it mounted on your Brumby? I think it would be worth checking if it is firmly mounted to a sizeable piece of bodywork that can act as a heatsink. Maybe even try mounting it to bare metal and use some heat compound?

you are welcome to drop round my place and borrow some parts to test if you like. I have a complete EJ22 wreck you can borrow bits off that was running perfectly.

in exchange you have to take me for a run in the brumby ;)

PM me if keen I have the next 2 weeks off.
