Looking for opinions

Post by rtcb65 » Mon Mar 30, 2009 8:56 pm

I have been thinking about an idea. Grafting a gc8 i think it is , about a late 80's model impreza nose onto a brumby. I would like to build up a brumby with my son and had the idea with the impreza nose .

I am looking for what people think of the idea, as i cant quite picture it myself.

Please post your ideas.

If you could get two images of the said models on the same angle (if possible) that would be a start - someone could photoshop it together for a rough idea of what you'd want.

Or you could try something like this:

^ I'd love to have the skill and money to produce this for real!

If you think you can do this...

and make it registerable in QLD, then when do i deliver the Impreza!

p.s The B pillers need to be more Brumbyish, the rear inner guards more rounded and lose the widebody kit,
that'd be no good offroad!

OK, I have now killed an hour and here you go, the Imprumby:

It's been quite a while since I have photoshopped something like this so it's a little rough, but you get the idea.

wow good job on the photoshop, certainly get the gist!
I think its a cool idea but my opinion is that whether people think it looks good or not, its always going to stand out like a car which has had the front chopped off and one from a completely different car stuck on :)
One technical problem I can think of is that an Impreza is a fair bit wider than a Brumby, there is a good few inches in the wheel track.

Thanks baron for the pic that is photo chopped.

I am only looking at doing the impreza nose add on from the radiator support forward . basically the nose cone. Then match the guards and bonnet to the cone by putting the bits from the impreza guards and bonnet to the brumby guards and bonnet. Find where they match the best with body lines and that is where the cut and add will go. The width differance is the easiest part to adjust. Find the best spot to do a cut and remove sections to bring it in to fit the width of the brumby. The idea is to keep as much of the brumby nose as possible and only change the nose cone and only what is needed to bring the nose cone and the car to match .

It may not happen as someone said it would look like a jumbuck . That is one thing i dont wont it to look like.

Come on Rick do it. It won't look anything like a Jumbuck.

Would love to see this in the flesh if it does go ahead.

With your skills and the other Subie Boys it would look great

Yeah do it Rick, we all know that you and the reast of the Suby Boys can do it.

I think it will be the wildest thing that you have done yet, and I for one will be wotching every step of the way.

You and your son will a lot of bonding time together and you can pass on some of the things that you know so that he can be just as good as you someday.

Do it Rick, just do it ok.

Rik.

Hey Rik, You hit the nail on the head with the reason for this build. Time for my son and myself to spend together and to help him focus . Also when some one spends time and spills blood on doing up there own car , they tend to appreciate it more.

I toyed with the idea of a series 1 liberty nose on my brumby as it has a squarish styled body, But I have seen a jag nose on a HJ one tonner and It looked like a factory job I couldn't pick it!
87 targa brumby (Neglected),
92 targa brumby (weekend runabout),
97 Lifted Outback (Dailey drive),

90 model liberty (was to be scrapped instead sold to workmate)
+ others.

I say give it a chop, bash, hammer, grind, weld and see what rolls out of Rosco's shed.

I must say this thought has crossed my mind before. If you can get the parts for the right price go for it, you to Outback Bloke, you know you want to.

Cheers Chridk

Here's some more food for though

http://htautos.co.uk/8.html

I dont think that any of the later model subaru faces would suit the front of a brumby, but i'm keen to be proven wrong.
