Should look great when it's back together, do you use acrylic or 2 pack?

Acrylic. Means more work, but it is very forgiving to us unskilled rednecks.steptoe wrote:pretty basic spray booth - one we could all afford

All painting is done. Now to let it all sit for a day . Then comes the clean up of the rest of the car, before it all goes back together. Then the final sanding of all the paint, due to our unskilledness , of putting the paint down. Then last but not least, rims and tires, and the cut and polish of the paint work.

unskilled - sure ..... the difference being the skilled ones can use masking tape and spray around window seals and door handles
I copped mismatches and humidity blisters from so called pro's
Maybe you could share pics of spray guns, brand, price, inline moisture filter, pressures you use to spray, brand price of paint, time to prepare say a door, time to paint same door, coats, how long before clear top coats, how many ?
You know, to inspire a few of us

Not sure how good it works but a mate of my son's who is a spray painter reckons he can get a really glossy almost 2 pack finish by using about 10% clear and 90% thinners in his final coat, I've only used 2 pack or base colours since he told me so I haven't had a chance to find out, also use the best quality thinners you can for base and clear as it doesn't fluff up as much as the cheap undercoat/cleaning stuff.......and don't touch with polish for at least a week after painting.

I have been doing basic paint jobs for many years, due to injuries to my wrists I am now unable to do the job as I would like. So I have been in the process of teaching Rick for awhile now, he usually lays down the undercoat & has just done his first colour & clear coats on this one. He has done an absolutely brilliant job & my wife, whose car it is, is also over the moon. Rick has proved once again that an old dog can learn new tricks.

Alittle update. Put new foam under the wing before it went on.
This is the finished look. Still got some work to do , but slowly getting there.
A Few parts to buy still .

That looks sweet, nice if you could get some Gravel Express skirt covers just to set it off, I recently gave away the G Ex front skirts which would have matched your rears.
The last lower rear spoiler I put on a wagon was held on purely by Sikaflex cos I couldn't be bothered drilling the holes lol, I saw the car back at pickles where I'd bought it from a couple of years later and it was still hanging on after what looked like a hard life.

You are right, it would look the part with the skirt covers. Would love to get one of those G Ex front bars and the skirts to go with it. But dont like the chances of finding one. The main thing we are after now is the top rear wing for the wagon door. Would prefer the Australian delivery one from the Gf8 but even the bigger JDM one would be ok.d_generate wrote:That looks sweet, nice if you could get some Gravel Express skirt covers just to set it off, I recently gave away the G Ex front skirts which would have matched your rears.

Once the dollars are available , our order goes in to frog and that should be it . A good going over and off to get a Rwc . We hope.
