Thanks everyone for your support and wishes.
The Finke race has been run & won for another year. Details and photos can be seen at http://www.finkedesertrace.com.au
Hayden Bentley from SA is the winner with a time of 4:06:56 so not breaking the 4 hour time but still beating the bikes.
It was another tough event with only 41 cars finishing out of 83 starters so just over half broke down or broke something.
Only 2 4WD vehicles finished, Colin Hunter in his Grand Cherokee won the modified class and Geoff Pickering won the stock class again (fourth time I think).
I havn't seen it, but there was another Brumby, No. 721, so is in stock class. I have told people to get pics so we can check it out but they must have had trouble in the rough going as they ran out of time on day one at Bundooma and were pulled out of the race.
There were 2 other class 7 vehicles that ran out of time. 704, a Jeep and 705, a Rodeo were both pulled out at Bundooma as well. Bundooma is only about half way down to Finke. The Jeep actually started again on day 2 for the race back to Alice but broke down.

I'm back. Well I got back at 730pm wednesday night, talk about good timing. 721 was a pretty standard looking/sounding/speed brumby. Unfortunately I missed it with the cameras. Lots of other photos and videos to be uploaded when I get back to work (broadband). Needless to say I had a great break, and hope to make it back for next years race.

Finally got around to getting the car out of the trailer and giving it a quick wash. I really must do something about the way the trailer sucks dust. Took some pics (in daylight this time) to show off the sponsers stickers and the finishing touches that we didn't have time to photograph in the mad rush to get ready for Finke.

i know it's not the same as being proud to have been in the race, but you should still be hell proud of what you have created. I'm sure all of us are, just to be even loosely associated with it through the website
It's a very beautiful beast.

Brumbyrunner - excuse me for being a desert race newbie...
how do you deal with the dust coming from the cars you're lapping in your awesome brumby.. with no windscreen? do you have even some sort of heavy duty plastic windshield to pop in? or is it all just snow-goggle stuff...

No windscreen yet. We wear fullface helmets and use an intercom to talk to each other (currently working on a line out to the in-car camera so you can hear whar we say). Some competitors use a fan to force filtered air into their helmets so they have clean air to breath, but we're used to it. None of the buggys racing in Australia have windscreens either.cooloothin wrote:Brumbyrunner - excuse me for being a desert race newbie...
