7 figures from racing! We can only dream of that. I'll have to come over and check out your racing one day.
I'm not allowed to run a mid-mount in this class and if I was going to build a trophy truck (or class 5 over here) I wouldn't start with a Brumby. I don't have a live rear axle either so I'm limited to whatever the top buggies and sand cars are getting which is about 26" of rear travel. But all that rear travel is wasted if I can only get 8, 10 or 12" of travel from the front. Thats the limiting factor. When I work out how to get the maximum amount of travel from an independent, driven front end, I'll start worrying about the back.
I know my car is a long ways from a trophy truck but I built it with my local conditions in mind and a very tight budget.
There is heaps of footage of suspension working hard on countless videos, mostly from the states. The Dezert People series has some good stuff.

Brumbyrunner: Hey Mate I think your doing much better than you give yourself credit for. Your doing excellant in my book. Most of the fun is just being out there and working on problems to make the car work. One step at a time, and by you posting your development and getting input your expanding the knowledge to all readers. What you have done with this thread is saved anyone wanting do build something the heart ache of making a mistake not to mention a waist of money.
As for your front-end travel limits you might contact a mate down you way who might be able to help you with a compound front-end travel setup.
It's Brett Longhurst @ Bremar Automotion in Kew, Vic. If your interisted email me and I'll give you his phone number and email address. They helped us with our transmission problem and will be designing our suspension shortly.

Time for an update.
The very last Crossbred kit ever to be made has arrived.
Big thankyou to Gareth and Tracy (your shirts are on the way) for sponsering me into a product they no longer sell. Have to pull the stickers off the car now. Maybe after Goondiwindi.
I wont be fitting the Crossbred kit before Goondiwindi. It's too close (5 weeks away)and I still need wheels and Liberty struts. I've got some RX rear discs I might throw on to try and get her to STOP in the meantime.
The Backyard Boys came for a visit. Dave fixed the Subdatascan (diagnostic computer). Brett fixed the surgeing problem and then proved the clutch was buggered by frying it to the flywheel. It's locked up solid now.
Ordered a new clutch kit. It's the Exeedy heavy duty with the optional sports cover for more clamp force. I think it's about as stout as I can get in an organic clutch. Advice indicates that once you go above organic clutch plates, you start breaking gearboxes.
Looking at getting Alldrive Subaru in Sydney to build me a new gearbox with all the gears and lsds that I want. Just waiting for them to get back to me.
My wheel poll idea was a phizzer. I thought people would have plenty of differing opinions to voice. At this stage I'm going with Bretts advice of 5 stud Superlites. They certainly are a tough rim and I can 15 and 16 inch versions that look identical and in good offsets too.

Quick update.
Due to bushfires and staff shortages we definately wont be racing at Goondiwindi this year. This is the last round of the Aust c'ship so it will now be 2008 before I can debut the car. On a brighter note, over the wet I will be concentrating on completing stage 2 which entales the 5 stud conversion, bigger brakes, wider track and custom front struts.
My big news is that I have now secured two companies who want to sponser the front suspension (one per side) and a third sponser for the HID lighting.

Sure. I've actually got a few left from the first run. Bear in mind that they are a really nice, comfortable shirt that I chose for quality not price and I never intended to try and sell them. I can sell you one for cost, $50 plus postage. What size you need?Matatak wrote:wiked shirt.
can we buy one?
