Hardly.

I'm not ready to run custom driveshafts at this stage.
Need to get the Liberty shafts in and working first and we'll go from there.
Who's building you longer arms and why Cromemolly? It's dearer and work hardens.

Off the shelf gear from Downey offroad in the usa. I was just lookin around. I very much doubt I want to spend 2500usd on front suspension for my ute. I'd be better off selling and buying something else.

Mate, pure brilliance!!! this project that you have taken on is great!. So much attention to detail and really put some thought and effort into all your mods. I have spent ½ the day reading up and checking all the pix. You should showcase it on its own webpage ;)
Keep up the great work

Got the new clutch install finished today and took it for a spin. Fist drive since Brett welded the clutchplate to the flywheel back in....was it August?

I'd forgotten who quick it is. Been puttering about in Landcruisers for too long.

Now I've got a water leak up under the intake manifold to worry about. I hope it's not coming out of the head gasket.

Front inner joints are notchy now too. Brand new in January and never even raced. Waiting for one to let go at full noise. Bring on the Porsche CVs.

Next I want to lower the radiator so I can see over the top of it and then start on the 5 stud hub conversion.

I'd also like to trial a windscreen back in the front. I've got on old one here, I just don't know how to take it out of the doner car and instal it in the racecar without breaking it or the rubber seal.
Don't they pretty much urathane all 'sceens in now?

Getting excited about Finke already. Only 25 weeks to go!

Yeeeeehhhhhaaaaaaa

Go porsche cv's wooo hooo

If you do have head gasket issues I may have a VRS here depending on what year motor you've got.

I would cross my fingers and check the coolant crossover pipe, those pesky O rings have given me a touch of trouble in the past.

I did some speed testing yesterday arvo and I'm exactly 18% under on the speedo.
I measured the speed with a GPS in each gear at 3000rpm. Then I calculated for 30" tyres and a 4.11 diff ratio and came up with these ratios.
1st 3.62
2nd 2.17
3rd 1.55
4th 1.19
5th 0.88
Not what I was expecting.
Where does one find out the gear ratios from the 'box number?

Thats a great link thanks bluesteel.

Well I was a little out on my calculations. These are what I have.

JDM Impreza WRX MY93 TY752VB3AA 3.454 2.062 1.448 1.088 0.825 3.416 1.000 4.111 Viscous (4kgf)

Sad news is my front cut wasn't an STI. Previous owner in Japan must have put on the TD05 and alloy control arms etc.

The water leak was a rusted out line running to a gadget mounted on the pass. side of the intake manifold. I don't know what it does but it looks important. This is the second steel line I've had fail. I'm going to replace them with hose and block off the heater lines in the process. Pity Subaru don't have threaded fittings for the water lines like other makes that I'm used to. Also going to delete the header tank mounted in the right front corner or the engine bay. Bit of mucking around, I need some tails welded onto the stainless water line for the turbo and the manifold thing and I'll put a bung in for the temp guage while I'm at it.
Next time I'll use a later model donk.

Sorted out the water leak. Brought the turbo line straight from the thermostat housing and conected the cold start thing on the manifold to the heater line on the water manifold.

Made new mounts to lower the radiator 140mm which is good but not enough to see over properly. Still, its as low as it can go unless we move the exhaust someplace else. Finding room to route the exhaust pass the big arse fuel tank is why I put the muffler where it is in the first place.
I also dropped a windscreen in to see how warm the motor would get without much airflow. Good news is that the motor ran cool even though the fans were on more. Bad news is I cracked the windscreen removing it from the parts car so have to buy a new one. It was in perfect nic too.
More serious bad news is that I found out the cause of the drivetrain slipping. Wasn't the clutch after all, although it was fried after we tried to make it slip. Started slipping today while checking the aiflow to the rad. Turned out to be the back diff. Absulutely no drive is getting to the driveshafts even though the tailshaft is spinning. Can't wait to see what sort of a mess is inside.

It's a lot louder now with a windscreen but you can still hear enough and all I heard was a clicking noise during cornering. I originally thought it was a DOJ.

Let me know what it is and I can sort out parts. Pretty sure I have another diff here if you need.

Well the diff looks fine inside, nothing broken or loose.
I must presume the viscous limo is stuffed internally. Anyone ever pull one apart?
I'm going to put my spare open diff in to continue with the cooling testing.

a stuffed limo wouldnt result in no rear drive though? At worst it would functiona as an open diff if only the limited slip functionality is broken..

Well you tell me whats happening then because I don't understand it.

When the problem first occured, motor idleing, in gear, clutch out, tailshaft spinning, car didn't move. I was alone, got out, looked underneath, car didn't move at all, tailshaft was still spinning.
Tried reverse and it moved...slowly, backed up about 500 metres, tried 1st again, moved forward...slowly, so I limped home at idle in 1st as it was only a couple kms.

I'm going to replace the (buggered?) viscous lsd with a clutch pack lsd and see how that goes. Hopefully tomorrow. If I had decent lights in the shed I'd do it tonight.

Pity my 444 gearbox isn't organised as I'll have to change the diff again when I put it in.
