They're mad. One shot of the D21 Navara looks like the front end is stuffed, but the next shot it's driving along fine. Just amazed at the wheel travel, but it would probably want to be after the $$ that gets spent.
I had a look at most of the shots and the class 4 lads seem to be the ones doing big airs and generally not looking like they have 500km to survive.

Nothing much has happened here since Finke. Too busy catching up on the work we put off getting ready for the race.
But we finally got the ute home and washed most of the mud off it after sitting in the trailer for a month.
The rear shocks have been removed and sent back to the builder for autopsy. Be interesting to see what failed and if anything can be done about it before Gundy.
I've started mocking up the new rear swingarms and it all looks pretty good. We should be able to mount a 700mm long full swingarm off the rear firewall and still keep the tyre centred in the wheelwell. I'm going to start with a full swingarm and see how it goes anyway. At least we wont have any binding problems like with the factory semi trailing set-up. Just have to build it strong enough so it doesn't tear itself out from under the car. I'm yet to determine just how much wheel travel I can squeeze out of the rear shafts but I think everyone will be surprised.

There's a good article in the latest 4X4 magazine on the Finke race. We get a brief mention and there's a photo of the left rear quarter at scuiteneering but that's it. As Suby owners know, we don't get a lot of attention in "real" 4WD mags.

It'll get plenty of attention next year when it finishes and finishes well. :D This year was a good shake down. Next year it should perform very well. New motor, new rear suspension = more power and able to use it.

Some progress. Built some solid rear diff hangers to replace the rubber mounted ones. This enabled removal of the torsion bar assembly while leaving the diff firmly in place. Still a bit of finishing needed and some paint but it was getting late...

Goodie. The start of some new rear suspension. Can't wait to see how you end up with your control arms

Still trying to get to Gundi but work has stoppped progress on the rear swing-arms again
The rear shocks should be rebuilt in time, just have to sort out the engine.

One of those options!

Here's a link to the flyer of the Gundi race.
Still waiting for entry form & supp regs.

Entry form and supp regs are on offroadracing
Anyone looking for info about the race or accom or camping in Gundy should look here

The rear shocks are back, all freshened up. One of the chrome shafts needed replacing after it got bent when the swingarm bolt broke at the Finke.

My second 5-speed with the Albins gearset, torsen front LSD and new 20kg centre is ready to be picked up and bolted in. I'm looking forward to seeing how much difference the lower ratios make.

We bolted the rear shocks back in yesterday. Then we adjusted the torsion bars and made a big improvement to the way the inner trailing arm bushes flex relative to the position of the trailing arm. Now they don't run out of their movement range before full bump with the added benefit of another inch and a half of bump travel at ride height. Inital testing shows the rear of the car now has less bodyroll which translates to less power-understeer.

One other thing, we managed to sell our old in-car camera setup and have ordered the new one. It should be ready for Gundy.
