2 tiny video clips and I am now massively excited about Finke! I just showed the father in law and he couldnt believe how stable it was at that speed.
Well done fellas - thats unreal!
Re speedo: if the ECU isn't getting a speedo signal it is probably in some sort of limp mode. You might find a heap of timing is being pulled hence the 5500rpm limit. Does it rev out in lower gears?
another thing - that clown still hasnt sent me the GPS receiver for the GPS speedo. He will be getting a nasty phone call this week. I have been nice about it for long enough

I'll have to check on the existence of the speedo harness. You guys put it in so I don't know whats there.vincentvega wrote:Re speedo: if the ECU isn't getting a speedo signal it is probably in some sort of limp mode. Does it rev out? Does it what.

It pulls superbly well to 7,500rpm except in top gear when it hits 5,500 and the check engine light comes on. Still drives the same and the light resets when you turn the motor off.
You should come for a drive dude. We launched off a grid yesterday at about 140 and must have got a metre off the ground!

Getting close now boys, bit over a week away now.
I used Stauf clamps on the inside of the tub to mount the rear canisters which worked out well. No pics yet.
Nearly ready, just got to finish the exhaust, fit the new tailshaft and driveshafts, replace all the wheel bearings and give it a service.
Any word on the speedo Dane?
I need to welcome our two new sponsers, Isa Diesel & Earthmoving and Asia Construction Equipment. It's amazing how many people always wanted to race off-road but never got around to it.

The new GPS we bought outputs different data to the old one (yet they both follow the same standard - right...) so I have stayed back at work the last couple of nights sorting it out. One last little niggle to sort then it will be done. Sorry it's taken so long but I have been flat out with my new house.
I will bring the thing out with me to Alice and mount it then. I get to alice on wednesday (and hopefully so does the ute) so we have plenty of time.
Have a think about where you want to mount the GPS. This datasheet has dimensions.

If you are happy to mount it in the roof skin we just need a 7/8" holesaw and some sealant. I can't bring any tools due to my luggage limits.
Who's the suba-express?

if you are thinking about where to mount the display - this has R320 dimensions in it. http://www.rinstrum.com/downloads/11/7/ ... ochure.pdf
I could also put a waterproof housing on the rear of it and mount it on top of the dash if there is not room to panel mount it. let me know

Thanks for all the encouragement. The desert is an unforgiving place though so we'll so how we go. The car is in better shape than it's ever been and they are forcasting rain again which is good for us.
I've already had the word from 11th outright and class winner at this years Dakar that he wants to be the first diesel to win a class in an AORC event so we;ll be watching for him.
Dane: Still waiting to find out if I definately need them. Would it be okay to pick them up on Tuesday instead?
