Dave built this rotisserie for the car which saved a lot of mucking around.

And then seam welded the underbody.

And the front end.

Next he cut a hole in the floor for the fuel tank.

Image

The tank will be 150 litres but wont be built untill I decide on the amount of body lift I need. Little as possible and I'm going to try and get away with 2".
And here she is all finished, waiting for the next step.

Image

Now I have to do is pick it up and try to fit the motor & gearbox, so hopefully by next weekend we will have the it running.

surely your not sticking with 4 stud brakes??

One of bratgeebahs 5 stud conversion kits is surely in order for the power your going to be making

speaking of which - whats your plans for a driveline?

Nice pics - I like the rotisserie. :)

Only way I can think of 30" tyres fitting without rubbing is to cut and reshape the firewall, trim the crap out of the quarter panels, and use wheels with a neutral or negative offset.

What diff ratios are you thinking of using to turn 30" tyres? 4.444:1?

Is seamwelding a method to make the body more rigid, or is it a CAMS requirement?

Long term plans include full late model STI hubs and brakes but at this stage I have to concentrate on getting it up and running and log booked. Does not help when you live 2500km away!

Will be running a 4.444 R&P with the gearset from a 3.9 to give even lower gearing. Might go to a 6 speed 4.444 if I start to break it. Trick is not to have too much power.
Seam welding is just something I'm doing for strength

You could make up some longer castor/radius rods? thus moving the wheel away from the firewall? Thats my 2 cents worth anyway.

Using the L series control arms and adjustable castor rods should just about give you the clearance you need.

Well I finally made it down to Brissy and picked up the ute from the cage builder on Wednesday morning. Then the front cut arrived today at lunch time. Before dark the backyardboys had it completely stripped and ready for the motor and box to be lifted out. I decided to go with an STI manual front cut that backyard brett had tracked down.

Still got a few issues with the brake booster, chassis rails, engine crossmember and gearbox crossmember to sort out tomorrow now that we know where the engine is sitting.

I'd say we'll still be here next week.

Why? You wanna race?
Plus, I believe it's your shout.

Sort of sorted. They work fine but you cannot buy the genuine seals and they are an odd looking thing that I haven't been able find aftermarket.

It looks like I will only have 7.5" of travel in the front at present. Thats 2" more than stock. Wont know for sure untill we've finished stage 1. Hopefully have the motor running tomorrow.
