I need to let you know how to disconnect the speed limiter as well. I only just remembered it yesterday. I will send you a PM in the next few days. I suppose 180kph by the speedo is going to be well over 200 actual speed though.

Shortest route, according to racq website is a little over 2500km each way. You'd be right dane, as long as you didn't drive near dawn, dusk or night.

Fly and hire is the quickest cheapest option.
If I wasn't towing a racecar down there I know I would.
It's only 1250km each way for me. And now we've got this silly little 130km/h speed limit thing.

Subiwon Kanobie reckons he's going to fly out to Alice and hire a Getz or some other buzzbox and..............................enter!!!!!!!
I think he's still looking for a navy if anyones interested. I hope I get to line up against him at the start.

Will a getz make it along the road to finke ? Who am I kidding, ofcourse it would, its a hire car !!

So 280 x2 = 560. + getz (about 33/day with 800km)

I reckon it would be roughly the same to drive if you could get a mate in the car to share driving and costs.

im really keen. I wouldnt be able to get time off to drive there (have to leave enough holidays to feed my snowboarding addiction..), but enough time off to fly in and hire a car wont be a problem.

The lure of the desert has me... As much **** as i have given you about your swag over the years Wilbur, it might be time i buy one.

Cool.

The old entrance to the start/finish line would have tested the old Getz out. It's all sealed now.

If you tough guys are really gonna camp (I'm not), prepare for subzero nights.

I should edit my last post.
If I can get down to Finke (at the end of day 1), I will definately be camping that night as there is no other option. Although a few years ago I met this bike rider with his own chopper and pilot and he got his crew to fly down to Finke, pick him up, take him back to the 5 star resort in Alice and then fly back to Finke next day so he could finish the race.
