Regarding the wheels, yes, they will have to go. After having a long chat with a guy at a tyre place today it became pretty apparent that I need 15" rims. 16" tyres in 29" outer rolling diameter are very few and far between, only found a couple of choices which were very expensive - like well over double the price of the Nankangs I wanted.

So I will definitely have to go for the 15" rims, and I will likely grab the PT cruiser ones for the wider offset. Already lined up a nice cheap set. Hopefully the offset will be enough, but if not no problem at all. The same tyre place I was at can supply me with some very tough billet wheel spacers in basically whatever thickness I need for a very reasonable price.
Now I just face the problem of sourcing those Nankangs I want as they are still quite good value, although apparently due to financial / exchange rate reasons the price has gone up a fair bit recently.

I love you too Alexander.

Funny you posted that tonight Matt...I picked up the replacement wheels just a few hours ago.
Set of 5 PT Cruiser 15" steelies.

A rough measurement indicates they are positioned about 20mm further away from the car - that should help.

I will likely get some small wheel spacers aswell for the back two wheels to bring the rear end into line with the front end. Front end is currently wider due to running all Liberty crossmembers and control arms (Liberty is a wider car).

Image

Naturally they look bloody awful at the moment. I'm open to suggestions on how to improve their looks. Obviously they will look a fair bit different when wrapped in massive chunky 29" tyres....I'm thinking maybe just painting them silver? No I do not want to put hubcaps on them! :)

In other news the exhaust is all done now, should hold together. I'd forgotten how loud the wagon is with it's single 3" Ebay canon muffler!

Paint them gloss black and get a set of chrome dress trims, this is what I did on my celica when I wasn't prepared to buy a set of rims and they came up a treat.

Yeah that's not bad actually! I'll likely do that and also get some kind of centre cap like that too.
What I don't like mostly is black MAG wheels. You can't even tell they are mags half the time, they just look like a car who's hubcaps have fallen off :)

Offset too close to the car. These rims are set particularly wide, hence the rather obscure donor car (PT Cruiser).
I'll probably also get some new chrome wheel nuts for them too :)

lol yes, perhaps I'll ramraid bunnings plumbling and get me a snorkle happening too!
I'll likely end up with something else in the longer term wheels wise but for now this will fix my immediate offset problem cheaply.

I'm surprised you didn't look at a set of PT cruiser alloys AndrewT - I dunno how they'd go off road but I reckon they'd look alright. Also dunno how much these things are worth...

Its looking good. I'm not sure if I've missed a post or three, but I thought you were going down the route of the nissan transfer case to keep the running gear up in standard position?

Cheers
